Melissa Tiganus

My name is Melissa, and I am a second year student studying Politics and Sociology. This year, I had the privilege of serving as Treasurer on the first-ever committee of the UN Women Society. Being part of the founding committee has given me invaluable insight into both the financial management and the inner workings of the society.

As Treasurer, I have developed hands on experience in monitoring expenditure, applying for Student Union funding, and ensuring that our events were delivered within financial limits - working carefully to balance ambition with practicality.

If re-elected as Treasurer, I pledge to:

  • Maintain a clear and balanced budget to ensure the society’s long-term sustainability.
  • Proactively apply for additional funding from the SU to expand the scale of our events.
  • Work closely with the committee and society members to ensure that event ideas are financially viable.
  • Support larger events and collaborations with other societies that align with our mission.

As someone who helped establish the society’s financial systems from the beginning, I offer continuity, stability and an established familiarity at a key moment in our development. My organisational skills, attention to detail and clear communication style allow me to manage finances efficiently while remaining approachable and collaborative. I would be honoured to continue in this role for a full term, building on the structures we have established and helping the society grow.
