Reyansh Airan

I'm a Y1 who has already thrown myself into a lot of what the Surgical Society has to offer. Whether the Specialty Fair, Surgical Skills Day or subcommittee talks, I’ve seen how transformative these experiences can be, especially early in medical school. That’s exactly why I want to help create them.

When leading my school’s Health & Medicine Society, I created a programme of speaker events, coordinated with clinicians and alumni, and managed event logistics end-to-end. I know what it takes to turn an idea into something people learn from and remember.

As Events Officer, I want to bring that in to build on what's already working. This means expanding our social calendar by listening to what members may feel is missing.

I also want to explore international collaborations. As an international student, I am aware of UCLMS' reputation as one of the world's best medical schools and firmly believe that the Surgical Society has a responsibility to represent our global standing. I can offer my connections to surgical leaders in Dubai and Mumbai to bring in new perspectives from a different variety of speakers.

I’m not just here for one year, I aspire to commit to this society for the whole of my degree. I want to grow with the Surgical Society and help create learning opportunities that future students are grateful for, like I already am.

I am applying for the position of Events Officer with the UCL Surgical Society because I have a strong passion for organising high-quality academic events that truly motivate students to delve into the field of surgery. My previous experience in organising conferences has equipped me with essential skills in coordinating speakers, managing logistics, and ensuring that events proceed seamlessly from the planning stage to execution. As an Obs & Gynae FYR, I also played a role in organising the symposium, which has given me insight into what is required to deliver a well-structured and engaging surgical event in a university environment. The UCL Surgical Society encompasses a diverse array of surgical interests, and I would be thrilled to contribute to such a prestigious and expansive society. I am eager to collaborate with individuals who share similar values to organise impactful talks, workshops, and networking opportunities that are both educational and inspiring. For me, this position is about making a meaningful contribution, working as part of a strong team, and helping create events that add real value to members interested in surgery.

Syenna Ferreira

I've experienced firsthand the impact of events organised by our Surgical Society. From joining SurgSoc at Freshers' Fair in 2024, to the RCS networking event that led to me shadowing incredible surgeons and take part in and lead several research projects, I know the immense value that such events hold in terms of furthering professional development.

As Clinical skills events coordinator, my capacity to organise, timekeep, and work efficiently has grown exponentially. Helping run the Surgical Skills course here at UCL has showcased my dedication to Surgical Society; Juggling setup, attendance of participants, making sure participants' and facilitators' needs are being met, teaching surgical skills (in which I must also be proficient), cleaning up, and creating an extensive logbook to be reviewed as accreditation by RCS are just some of the responsibilities I have in my current role, and I always do them with a smile. Even when it means my mondays are 9am-9pm!

I constantly come up with ideas to make work more efficient and experiences more enjoyable , and frequently provide solutions to problems. I can also accept when certain ideas don't work, making me an easy person to work with, as I thrive on constructive criticism.

I would love to be Events Officer as I am naturally outgoing and very people-oriented. I care deeply about creating environments where others feel included and confident. I value fine details and memorable experiences, so let me help create them !

Gab Domantay Gibson

Hi everyone, my name is Gab, and I am excited to be running for the position of events officer for UCL Surgical Society!

Surgery is built on innovation, resilience, teamwork and preparation - and I want our events to reflect exactly that.

Currently, I run talks with UCL Next Top Doctor to inspire prospective medical applicants, and I am helping to facilitate workshops at the iNUGSC widening participation conference. As Social Secretary of Filipino Society, I have organised large-scale events with over 300 attendees, such as a boat party and an inter-uni Valentine's Day event. These experiences have strengthened my teamwork and organisational skills.

I have thoroughly enjoyed participating in events such as iNUGSC, the General Surgery Spectrum and the Sub-specialties Fair. They've reinforced my passion for surgery, and I would like to continue to inspire the future generations of surgeons through similar events. As Events Officer, with my new ideas, I will deliver high-quality, well-organised events, creating an environment that allows aspiring surgeons to feel welcome and supported - introducing new opportunities such as mentorship programmes and interactive workshops. I want every member, whether certain about surgery or just exploring, to feel welcome and supported.

Vote for me and together with my experience in event planning, mentorship and public outreach, let's build a Surgical Society that prepares students not just to learn about surgery, but to step confidently into it.

Apiraami Manivannan

Hey everyone!

My name is Apiraami, 2nd year medical student, and I’m applying to be Events Officer.

Surgery is such a broad and exciting field, and I’d love the opportunity to help organise events that allow students to explore different specialties, build practical skills, and connect with surgeons and peers who share similar interests.

As Events Officer, I would focus on organising engaging and accessible events that support students at different stages of their medical training. This could include skills workshops, talks from surgeons across specialties, and career-focused sessions that give students insight into surgical training pathways.

I’d also love to work closely with the rest of the committee to help ensure events are well organised, well promoted, and easy for students to attend, creating opportunities for as many people as possible to get involved with the society.

Most importantly, I want Surgical Society events to feel welcoming and supportive, especially for students who may be exploring surgery for the first time.

I really enjoy organising events and working as part of a team, and I’d love the opportunity to help run events that inspire interest in surgery and bring students together.

I’d really appreciate your support!
