When Atlee looked out at a Britain rocked by war, its factories smoldering, flat blocks in piles of rubble, he did not despair, he looked out this great land, across the heaths and marshes lakes and saw the foundations of a New Jerusalem.  The work to build that Great Society was not easy and remains incomplete, but the fruits of that labour flower still.  This is most evident in the NHS which means that we can surf with reckless abandon, safe in the knowledge that every broken rib and punctured lung will be treated and repaired for maximum stoke.  I look around at this Society now, and I see a club struck by great challenges.  High trip prices, limited tickets, and just not enough waves to go around.  But like Atlee, I too, do not despair.  The answer to our problems is simple.  We need vital, energetic leadership.

When I am done with my term as President I will have acomplished these three things.  We will create the infastsructure for funded weekend trips among members to Cornwall, Scotland, and the Republic of Ireland.  We will have a transparent and fair release of tickets which allows the surf community to grow.  And most importantly we will create a welcoming culture that shares the stoke with all of its members.

For many members, Surf Club is their main source of community and friendship at UCL.  It certainly has been for me.

And so as you go to the polls on Election Day I want you to ask yourself one question,

What kind of Surf Club do you want to
