Sonakshi Jayasinghe

Having served as Treasurer this year, I’ve gained a deep understanding of how the Sri Lankan Society operates behind the scenes - from budgeting large-scale events to ensuring financial sustainability and accountability. This experience has given me both the practical insight and the strategic perspective needed to lead the society confidently as President.

Over the past year, I’ve seen first-hand the impact our society has in creating a sense of belonging and “home” for Sri Lankan students at UCL. As someone who values community deeply, I want to build on this foundation by strengthening member engagement, expanding collaborations with other societies, and delivering events that celebrate not just Sri Lankan culture, but also the diversity within it.

As Treasurer, I prioritised transparency, organisation, and long-term planning. As President, I would bring that same structure - while also focusing on vision, inclusivity, and growth. My goal is to ensure the society remains financially stable, socially vibrant, and academically supportive, creating opportunities for professional networking, cultural celebration, and meaningful friendships.

I care about this society not just as a committee member, but as someone who understands how important it is to feel connected while studying away from home. I’m standing for President because I want to lead with both competence and heart - and take the Sri Lankan Society to its next stage of impact and visibility at UCL.
