I could list off countless reason's for why I'm choosing to stand for social secretary of the UCLMRFC, but it'd be easier to summarise it in one word, love. Love for the game, love for the shower time, love for the commitment, love for the Wednesday night's, where my attendance has indeed been faultless throughout the academic year and I can't imagine a world I'd let it slip come my second year, but most importantly a love for getting so weird on and off the pitch with a load of of-age men (18 year olds + the rest). It would be an honour to take over the torch left by senor meatball and his partner in crime, with which I believe I could do much good work. I would continue to prioritise the club in every walk of life and would take the burden of adminning only the better mixed-socials on the circuit (vetoing rvc from the start as that was dead chat). I'd strive to keep the club as inclusive as it has been in the year gone, with placing a greater emphasis on ensuring many of the fresh do not let attendance for social's or at the very least the hell hole we call scala slip off as we've seen this year, regardless of being on a leash, club come's first. I'd strive to increase club sponsored events for a variety of bevs and establishments as we saw towards the back-end of the year as that was quality admin. Ultimately, I could not picture myself doing anything else with my second year of university with such intent as holding the title of social sec.

Long live the cloob,

Harrow.

Joining UCL this year, I joined with trepidation as to what was next and how I would be able to find a group of friends that I could rely on. In my eyes the rugby club has done amazingly in helping me to do this and without it I do not know where I would be most of the time or who I would be with. Therefore, I believe that it is fair to say that my time at UCL has been largely shaped by my time at the rugby club and the solidarity and friendship that it has forged between myself and fellow first-years and beyond. Without such a social experience I doubt I would have become so confident and enriched in my university life. With this in mind, I would like to continue to shape and champion this aspect of the club for those that are going to join us in the new year and for those in their second and third year. In my opinion, it is the social secretaries that ensure a cohesive and inclusive club that continues to reach out to alumni and first years alike, truly making men's rugby feel like a family. I believe that in this role, given my previous experiences this year, I will be well-placed to ensure a good university rugby club experience for all. It is a role that I will take seriously and responsibly with those in the club at the front of my mind.

I’m applying to become Social Secretary of the Rugby Club because I thINk that the culture of the club spans far beyond the ability to play rugby. This year, I was thankfully part of one of the best years when it comes to fresher INtake and it can be encapsulated by sheer buy IN. One of the reasons that was feasible, were the socials run by emersIN and Ben kINg (Oh wait, it changed to Jack Hall, don't care). Besides all of this soppy nonsense, I promise that, I would ensure a few mandates for members to abide by albeit vague (more to come soon): 1) Compulsory Scala attendance despite having no memory of being there (even during readINg week...) 2) Weekly tests of BurlINgton Bertie up until the first readINg week and I pledge that I would use my connections at Goldman Sachs to seek a sponsor for the club that rhymes with BeeTay (VK). Every Thursday this year has been pretty identical for me and it has consisted of 3 vital parts makINg it surprisINgly the highlight of my week. 1) OvercomINg disgraceful hangxiety caused by emersIN, due to another sticker being made of you from the social 12 hours before 2) MaintaININg my 100% attendance...         of getting food with Harrow and 3) Spending my weekly budget on what my parents INtended it be for, my social attire for the next week. On a real one though, nothing has given me more pleasure than getting weird with grown adults who are the future of our economy and I INtend to foster this culture into 2027.
