I am applying for the role of Welfare Officer because I genuinely believe in the power of community, mindfulness, and inclusivity. University life can be overwhelming at times, and I know how important it is to have a safe, supportive space where people feel heard and valued. The Yoga and Meditation Society is already a place of peace and connection, and I’d love to contribute to making it even more welcoming for everyone.
Through my BSc in Global Humanitarian Studies, I’ve developed a deep understanding of well-being, social inclusion, and mental health advocacy. My experiences—whether it was renovating schools and retirement homes in Costa Rica, assisting healthcare professionals during my nursing practice in France, or working with diverse communities—have taught me the importance of empathy, active listening, and creating safe spaces. With my TAS10 CPD Certified Training, I’m also equipped with practical skills to support members effectively.
As someone who actively practices yoga and meditation, I know how transformative these practices can be for mental and emotional well-being. If elected, I’d love to organize inclusive welfare-focused events, like mindful drawing sessions, herbal tea socials, or simply being available for a chat when someone needs support. I also fully support UCL’s Team Against Hate Inclusion Plan and want to help ensure that our society is a place where everyone—regardless of background or experience—feels comfortable and included.
