You may have seen me around in a few different productions this year — mainly as an ASM for Shrek and the DSM for A Monster Calls, as well as just generally around the Blooms and the Green Room. Through this, I’ve seen firsthand how important welfare, strong communication, and a welcoming environment are to making Stage Crew run smoothly.
If elected, I’d like to carry on the fantastic work done by the committee this year in strengthening communication between producing societies and Stage Crew, as well as continuing weekly welfare drop-ins. However, I’d also like to:
-Make them a space where new members feel more comfortable asking questions and sharing concerns
-Push for more workshops where experienced members of different departments can share their expertise
One of the main things I’d like to do is commence Operation Stage Crew Touch Grass. Sometimes we all get a bit wrapped up backstage and forget to take a break. To help combat this, I’d like to:
-Occasionally host welfare drop-ins outside
-Have more conversations about burnout and how to avoid it
-Designate some welfare drop-ins as study breaks
Finally, if elected, I’d like to advocate for a bigger welfare presence on smaller and external shows. No matter the size of the show, welfare should always be a priority!
Stage Crew is an incredible community — I want to make sure that everyone feels supported and valued, and I’d love your vote to help make that happen :)

Hi, my name is Leah. I am running for Welfare Officer because I know that sometimes, especially during show weeks, it can feel like there is a lot of pressure on you. Having someone to talk to about any concerns you may have, for example about working in the theatre, your show roles or interactions with other people, is essential and I will always be open to meeting up (or messaging) with anyone that just wants to chat.
I have been on Stage Crew committee this past year as Freshers’ Rep and this has given me the opportunity to get to know a lot of our members and I also know what it is like to be a fresher trying to figure out university and make friends at the same time. I’m excited to continue working with everyone in this society and am hopeful to further contribute to the growth of Stage Crew with this role.
As a Welfare Officer, I would continue running the weekly welfare drop-in sessions and would work with the committee to ensure that everyone is included in our events and shows. I would also be sure to pop into the green room and be present in the theatre during show weeks as a friendly face and to offer support when it’s needed. Communicating with other societies that we work with, especially with their Welfare Officers, and setting boundaries is something I’d like to do as well, so that conflicts can be avoided.
I am grateful to have this opportunity and I hope that you’ll consider me for this role. Thank you!
