Eugene V. Debs, 5-time Socialist Presidential candidate, once said: "So far as I am concerned, it does not matter what others may say, think, or do, as long as I am sure that I am right with myself and the cause. There are so many who seek refuge in the popular side of a great question. As a Socialist, I have long since learned how to stand alone".

As someone with a privileged background, leading to immensely reactionary influences in my childhood,  this quote significantly resonates with me. It took years for me to rehabilitate myself from the alt-right pipe I almost entered when I was an early adolescent. Only after the police abuses of 2020 and Bernie's second campaign was I truly exposed to class and racial inequalities that fuelled me towards left-wing, socialist politics. Becoming one of the few leftists at well-off private schools, I have learned to be a principled socialist presence. As such, I'm applying to be a treasurer to help the UCL socfem society fight for a better world.

As Treasurer, I will work towards ensuring that the SocFem society's funding is in order, relentlessly fighting for a strong left-wing socialist on campus that fights for students', women's and workers' liberation (and beyond with Palestinian liberation), rather than half-measures proposed by UCL admin and liberal societies; Instead of the conservative motto, "A fair day's wage for a fair day's work", we must inscribe upon the revolutionary banner the watchword: "Abolition of the wage system!"
