Snowsports Club: President

Hey, I'm Oscar - a first year English student and this year's freshers rep.

My first year in this society has not only allowed me to become more involved with snowsports, a lifelong passion of mine, but also allowed me to meet many incredible people who i have made strong bonds with. As President my plan is to encourage as many club members as possible into becoming more involved in snowsports, using my experience as freshers rep to organise the society and pay close attention to the needs of our crucial wider society. 

My main aim as President is to make snowsports a more accessible society, working closely with the treasurer to ensure we are investing our money into areas that improve our ability to draw people in whom may not have considered snowsports as a possibilty prior to uni. Whether this is providing more funding into beginner sessions or creating a stronger focus on the low skill requirements for our trips in order to strengthen our community and presence as a society.

I hope to foster an environment with other committee members that promotes creative liberty, as in my opinion the best way for the club to develop is for each member of committee to feel equal when discussing ideas for the areas they are responsible for. To accompany this, I wish to retain the dynamic between committee and other snowsports members as I feel synergy here is what truly brings us together as a club.

Hi, I’m Emily, a second year human sciences student! 

I am running for president this year as snowsports has been a huge part of my life at uni and for my final year I would love the opportunity to show others how amazing this society is. Having been on committee for the past two years, from ski captain to vice president, I have learned a lot about the club and being in roles of leadership which I have gained a lot of experience from that will help me as president :)

As president I will continue the amazing work that has been done on this years committee but I would love to focus on improving certain areas:

• Having more social events with other societies
• Use our social media to regularly update members with weekly timetables
• Have more beginners sessions and aim for progression sessions
• Use a survey throughout the year for anyone to use to gain insight on what can be improved
• Invest in better equipment
• Make the society inclusive to all from membership prices to “give it a go” sessions
• Within committee, maintain a good friendship and work balance

I am a very committed member coming to all races and socials throughout the whole year. I am sure that next year we can continue to make this a great and fun space for everyone!
