Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh, I'm Gursimran, a first year Economics student. I consider myself incredibly fortunate to be where I am today, and none of this would have been possible without Sikhi guiding me every step of the way.
Sikhi has shaped my journey - whether it was through doing seva at the Gurdwara, teaching Punjabi, or simply finding peace in kirtan and Gurbani after a long, stressful day. It has given me a sense of purpose and belonging, and now, I want to give back to the community that has always supported me and made me feel at home.
By becoming President, I want to engage in active seva—through meaningful events besides our loved LOC, outreach, and initiatives that strengthen our Sikh student community. More than that, I want to play a role in increasing Sikh representation in higher education, ensuring that more students from backgrounds like mine can access opportunities at top universities. I aim to introduce new socials and activities such as 'Hide and Sikh', Go Karting, Mini-golf and many more. In terms of career aspects and support, I would like to set up a mentorship scheme, where 2nd year students offer to support freshers in their transition to university studies and a CV and Cover Letter workshops for those wishing to break into competitive fields such as finance or law.
Despite my faults, I believe I have a deep love for Sikhi which will help me contribute to this role to the best of my abilities.

I am standing for President because I am passionate and commited to the development and success of Sikh society and to the wellbeing of its members. I believe UCL Sikh society should take advantage of the diverse Sikh community in London and host workshops with local organisations, punjabi classes and even meditation sessions. With Sikh history being intertwined with British history, we could organise more trips to guduwaras and meusums such as the Wallace collection, V&A meusum and go on walking tours with organisations such as a little history of Sikhs to deepen our understanding of Sikhi history. We could also host fundraisers, such as charity football matches and bake sales to raise money for charities like the sikh welfare team and Khalsa aid. I am also commited to hosting more social events both on and off campus to strengthen and develop a strong sense of community. I aim to build on the current strong foundations by hosting a range of diverse speakers in order to foster our understanding of sikhi philosophy and introduce debate nights to be more interactive. I have experience of being a Sevadaar/ Jatha leader in South Birmingham Sikhi Camps and wish to get more involved with UCL Sikh society.
Sikhi is more than just a faith—it is love, truth, and a way of life. It is the warmth of Sangat, the wisdom of Gurbani, and the strength of Seva. This love for Sikhi is deeply rooted in me, and it is the reason I am standing for Sikh Society President. I want every member to experience this love, to feel connected, and to explore their roots with curiosity and pride. More than anything, I want our society to be a space where Sikhi isn’t just spoken about—it is felt, lived, and celebrated.
Having served as a First-Year Representative, I have gained a deep understanding of what is required to lead this society. I know the responsibility it carries, and I am ready to take it on with full dedication. Leadership is not just about organising events—it’s about inspiring, supporting, and uplifting those around you, and that is exactly what I strive to do.
I am overflowing with ideas for the year ahead. From thought-provoking discussions to fun socials, from Kirtan sessions to community outreach, and from cultural celebrations to creative workshops, I want to make sure every member finds something that resonates with them. Whether you are deeply rooted in Sikhi or just beginning your journey, this society is for you.
My love for Sikhi is immeasurable, and it is my greatest motivation. I hope to lead this society with that love at its core, creating a space where we grow together, support each other, and truly experience the beauty of Sikhi.
