I’m snarky, sardonic, and possess a painfully dry sense of humor - the makings of either a well-adjusted physicist or an editorial nightmare (hopefully, both). I also take an avid interest in literary theory and, in a turn of events that perhaps sealed my fate, once received an enamel pin that reads ‘I am silently correcting your grammar’. Safe to say, someone clearly thinks I’m well-suited for meticulous journal editing.
My experience in editorial roles has only reinforced this. As Editor-in-Chief of my school newspaper, I balanced clarity with creativity, ensuring scientific and humanities-based pieces alike were both engaging and rigorously structured. My writing for UCL’s ESG Society on thermoelectric materials and quantum computing for energy optimizations has further refined my ability to communicate technical topics in a way that is accessible and compelling.
Physics is often underrepresented in science journalism, where the spotlight tends to fall on the cinematic appeal of black holes and nuclear fusion, only offering a narrow slice of the discipline. The magazine would benefit from a stronger focus on areas like condensed matter and materials science—fields that shape modern technology and have tangible impacts on modern technology. I'd love to bring my insights into producing dynamic content for the magazine that taps into the more idiosyncratic qualities of physics valuing clear scientific writing and editorial precision - ideally with a touch of wry cynicism.

I have had a fascination for physics since I was young, drawn to its ability to explain the fundamental laws governing the universe. This deep-rooted curiosity is something I believe the physics section of the UCL Science Magazine thrives on- addressing the mysteries of our world. If I became the Physics Editor, this is precisely the kind of work I am eager to supervise, and I am confident that I possess the necessary skills to excel in the role. My degree, with a significant focus on geophysics, has given me a foundation in the physical sciences, complimenting my passion for the subject. This knowledge will prove useful when engaging with intricate topics and communicating them successfully. I have excellent research skills, aiding my report writing expertise, leading my editorial skills to be both precise and insightful, ensuring high-quality, well-informed content. With exceptional attention to detail and highly efficient organisational skills, I am confident in my ability to consistently edit articles and ensure they are swiftly ready for publication. Additionally, I have an affinity for science outreach and translating complex concepts to digestible insights- an essential skill in the ever-expanding field of physics. I'm dedicated to making sure the physics section is not only thought-provoking but also easy to understand, sparking curiosity and helping readers connect with the material.
