Eric Tan

Hi everyone!
I'm Eric, a 3rd-year astrophysics student with a strong passion for both science and student engagement. In the past three years, I have been an active member of the Physics Society, serving as the lead representative for Astrophysics. Additionally, I have taken my role as vice president of the Table Tennis Society gaining experience in leadership, organization, and teamwork. Where I believe I am now well-prepared to take on this challenge and make a meaningful impact.

As Vice President, I will take on several responsibilities and uphold them to the best of my ability. However, my primary focus will be on the growth and development of the society, including:

Bridging the gap between the academic and social aspects by organizing events that cater to a wide range of interests, ensuring everyone finds something they enjoy. Then creating networking opportunities to help members connect, collaborate, and build meaningful relationships. Collaborating with other societies to host joint events, creating a sense of belonging and inclusivity within the broader community.

I believe the biggest challenge for the society is creating an environment where everyone feels truly welcome. To address this, I aim to take proactive initiatives to ensure that all members feel actively engaged, whether they are participating in academic talks, movie socials, or sports. By ensuring an inclusive and dynamic atmosphere, I hope to make the society a place where everyone feels valued and involved.

Hugo Wharton

Dear fellow students,

As your next Vice-President, I vow to lobby for the use of ChatGPT in exams and organise weekly facepainting socials. Okay what I will actually do is support the next president and the rest of committee in effectively running the society to ensure that we have regular (interesting) speaker talks and a sprinkle of socials. I hope that you'll agree with me that studying physics can feel like a full time job, so I believe this society should provide respite from the degree stresses, but equally it should help it's members to explore their interest in physics outside the context of exams and problem sheets. For these reasons, I want to actively encourage more engagement from students across all years (and degrees), with the goal of creating a supportive community of like minded individuals. Whether you want more drinking socials or just a chance to make new friends, as VP I will listen to all your ideas and hope to leave a lasting positive impact on the society.

For a bit of background on me, I am currently in the 3rd year of my MSci in Physics. Last summer, I had the fortune of undertaking a MAPS internship and have now decided I would like to pursure a PhD, hopefuly in condensed matter with a focus on computational physics. Aside from this I am an avid reader, fillm enjoyer and pint drinker, with a speciality in making it to my 9am after a long night of lemonades.

I will spare you too many details, but a vote for me is a vote a better physicssoc!

Arhham Shah

I am standing for the position of Vice President in the UCL Physics Society because I am dedicated to making physics more accessible and engaging for everyone. As a Theoretical Physics student, I've seen how physics is a powerful tool for understanding the universe and an integral part of our everyday lives. I want to share this enthusiasm and help bridge the gap between physics and the wider student body.

I have practical event planning experience, having worked as a freelance event organizer for social establishments in Mumbai for over a year. This has equipped me with the skills to plan and execute a range of events. Additionally, my roles as Events Officer for the UCL Mathematics Society and First-Year Representative for the Jain Society have further honed my leadership and community engagement skills.

As Vice President, I aim to promote physics accessibility, enhance student engagement, and build a supportive community. I will organize events that make physics more approachable and exciting, actively engage with students to understand their needs, and ensure that all members feel valued.

With my passion for physics, event planning experience, and leadership skills, I am confident in my ability to serve effectively as Vice President for the UCL Physics Society. Your support will help us create a vibrant and engaging community that brings the wonders of physics to life for all students. Let's make physics an integral and enjoyable part of our university experience!
