I am Raahym Rehan, and I am running for the position of Welfare Officer for the Pakistan Society. With a deep-rooted connection to Pakistan and extensive leadership experience at UCL, I am passionate about creating a supportive and inclusive community for our society’s members. My roles as Events Officer for the UCL Mathematics Society and Senior Teaching Assistant have given me practical skills in organizing events, mentoring peers, and facilitating open dialogue. These experiences have taught me the importance of well-being, whether through academic support, social engagement, or access to resources that foster personal growth. As Welfare Officer, I plan to implement initiatives that promote mental and academic well-being, including regular discussion forums, study support networks, and informal social events that celebrate our heritage. By establishing clear communication channels and creating a resource hub tailored to our members’ needs, I aim to ensure that every student feels valued and supported. I am dedicated to bridging our cultural roots with modern opportunities and believe that a strong community is key to achieving both personal and academic success. I look forward to working with the society to build an environment where every member is encouraged to thrive.

Having been born and raised in a small predominantly white town in the United States, one of the things I was most looking forward to regarding coming to UCL was the diversity. Getting to be surrounded by a Pakistani community was just as exciting as finding halal food on every corner (another thing that is unfortunately next to impossible in my town). Throughout my first year, I have enjoyed the Pakistan Society's events as they have offered me the environment to meet so many new people and express my culture. This is why I hope to contribute to the environment that this society has made for me, for others in the upcoming year.
The main way I would like to do this is to expand beyond the more formal events, by using member feedback to help put together the smaller and more frequent events where members had more of an opportunity to mingle and make new friends this year. I am easily approachable and know I can provide an avenue between society and committee members in order to ensure smooth communication and ultimate satisfaction.
Overall, I look forward to the opportunity to contribute to the UCL Pakistan Society as it would give me the chance to help create a diverse environment for others to find a piece of home the same way I did.

As Welfare Officer for Paksoc, I would strive to create a supportive and inclusive environment for all members and prioritising members’ mental health by providing consistent supplies of jalebi and mithai at the events.
Any other requests would be welcomed with open arms.

Hey everyone! I’m Alisha, a first-year Economics student, and I’m running for PakSoc Welfare Officer because I want to make sure every member feels supported, included, and valued. PakSoc is more than just events—it’s a community, and I want to ensure no one feels out of place or overlooked. University can be overwhelming, and having a strong support system makes a huge difference. That’s why I want to introduce meaningful initiatives to make PakSoc even more welcoming. I’ll implement mentor scheme, a flexible peer mentoring system where members can be paired with someone who’s been through similar experiences—whether it’s career advice, balancing cultural and uni life, or just having a familiar face to turn to. No forced check-ins, just support when you need it. I also want to make events more regular and varied, so it’s easier for everyone to get involved. By introducing more regular game nights and dessert nights we create more chances for people to chat. Lastly, I’ll introduce an anonymous feedback system, making it easier for members to share concerns or suggestions. PakSoc has been a highlight of my first year, and I want to help make it an even stronger, more welcoming space for everyone! 💚✨
