UCNC has been a huge part of my time at UCL, allowing me to meet so many amazing people. I want to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to become involved in this extortionary club, and I believe that growing and developing social netball is the best way to make that happen! Every year hundreds of players trial for the competitive teams and it's hugely important that those who don't make a competitive team, or who want to play more relaxed netball, still have the opportunity to continue playing and becoming an integral member of UCNC. Being on the committee this year has taught me invaluable skills that I would love to take into the role of development sec : )

Attending the social netball training sessions this year has shown me how important this opportunity is. I have thoroughly enjoyed not only the physical aspect of the trainings and the game time, but also having fun with friends and making new ones. Even with often just a small group of attendees, the training sessions are always enjoyable and have allowed me to meet so many people in different years and courses that i wouldn't have otherwise.
Were I to take up this role, I would continue to ensure that the "social" element of "social netball" is central to the sessions. I would love to introduce more game-style practice drills, such as regarding shooting or marking, but would continue to keep lots of time for playing games as I know that this is often the most fun. Another thing that my friend Hannah and I have thought could be a good thing to introduce is having music from speaker during the sessions if it is permitted, simply to help with the positive atmosphere. I know that at the start of this year there were lots of people trying to attend the social netball sessions but that this has died off somewhat in the last term especially, and so I would aim to keep numbers up throughout term 1 and term 2 so that there always enough attendees to play full court games.
Overall, I would like to take up this role so that I could help to create the lovely community of social netball, knowing how much I have appreciated it in my first year. Thank you for the opportunity to apply.

After experiencing social netball this year, I would love to help training sessions grow and develop into a proper team. I think training should be more focused on developing netball skills for those that want to improve and teaching netball to those who’ve never played before. I want to build a closer relationship with our team members by asking about their netball confidence and skill level, then personalising the training so everyone has the chance to improve, with small groups based off ability. After coaching a year 9 netball team last year, I understand how important it is to build a relationship with your team, as well as getting to know each other not just as players, but people. I think activities post-training and post-matches would help build a supportive relationship with dev secs and the team; like pub trips after matches and holiday dinners. I want girls that have never played netball before to finish the year confident in their abilities and not being afraid of trying new things. Maintaining engagement throughout the year can be difficult, so I want to introduce a new sign-up method that is quick and easy to see who else is attending and running themed netball training sessions around holidays to make training a fun place to be. I truly believe that I can make a change to social netball and would be immensely grateful for the opportunity to stand as one of your development secretaries. :)

Hi my names Bella and I'd love to be development sec this year.
I've always enjoyed helping out and coaching other teams, creating a fun yet supportive environment while building strong relationships. Playing for the 6s this year has made me appreciate the importance of feeling included within a team, but I know social netball can often feel a bit disjointed and less of a community. I'd love to change this by creating a more fun yet supportive community where everyone feels welcome. As a key point of contact for any questions from social players, I believe that dev secs should make an effort to get to know each individual player both in training and at socials.
Within the training sessions, there is such a variety of different standards ranging from people who have never played to people who were just shy of making a team. To resolve this issue, I'd love to occasionally split into groups of ability for drills or match teams more evenly. This way, players feel more comfortable whilst also growing in confidence. I’d also promote the Team UCL league, as it’s a great opportunity for relaxed competition that not many people are aware of.
I would be so thankful to be given the opportunity to be this year's development sec, as I feel I could help to create a bigger, more fun, yet organised social training which feels like much more of a community.

I have been going to social netball regularly since the start of Uni and for me it’s a really fun, social and active way to break up the week. I have met so many lovely girls at the session and so I want to continue to create a welcoming and positive atmosphere at the club.
Given I have been attending for a while now, and I played for a club before coming to Uni, I feel like I have enough experience of different drills and knowledge of the rules of the game to effectively run the sessions and help the girls improve their skills and confidence. I am also looking to undertake a refereeing course with my club from home which I think will be incredibly useful to help run the sessions.
Also, I would want to bring music to the sessions to try and make them a little bit more lively and I would want to advertise the session a bit more around Uni to try and increase the number of girls that turn up every week because whilst we have made the session work with only 4 people before, the bigger the turnout the better!
