Doris Mbakwe

I believe that I have what it takes to be President of the Natural Sciences Society. I want to elevate the society beyond how it currently is because we are more than just students pursuing academic excellence; we are a vibrant community capable of finding joy and connection in our shared passion for science. My vision centres on a member-driven approach. I want to have an emphasis on what members of the society want to do and ensure that voices are heard. Additionally, I want to encourage more of a social and inclusive atmosphere within the society by promoting diverse and exciting events over the year with a range of different opportunities. I am confident in my leadership ability and lead this society alongside an equally capable committee and I have what it takes to step up to the responsibilities of this role. I’m excited to see how the year turns out and I hope that I have your support to explore the full potential of this society.

Zach Khan

I will work hand in hand with events rep to make sure we have fun and unique crunk events - I will be a friendly face people can ask questions about NatSci to, and make sure any queries about teaching are relayed back to the department if you wanna remain anonymous. I will make sure the course is fun and stays fun ☺️

Naam Ghedia

Hi guys, me again! I’m honestly just as surprised as you are to see me here. I’ll keep this brief because I don't want this to be a whole lotta yap. For those of you that don’t know, I’ve had the privilege of being your leader this past year and it’s been so fun! I really enjoyed planning events and working with my lovely committee and I really could not have done it without them.

There were so many things that I wanted to make happen and did, like New Year’s party, academic events, and starting the football team (even though we aren’t in tip top shape…)! But there were so many things that didn’t happen due to logistical reasons (cough cough STEM Ball). I have been talking to other societies who felt the same way about how that fell apart, and we so want to make something special next year. Oh yes speaking of, I have been listening to the whispers about getting a Wii in the common room, and I’ll talk to Rebecca about that with the leftover budget — but you have to pinky promise that you won’t break it like the original whiteboard in there.

This past year, I have gotten a fab idea of how paperwork and SU approval works (it took so many rejections to get boat party going you have no idea), but honestly these events rerun and I now have a few contacts (yay), so it should be pretty easy to streamline event planning next year for you. I might even sprinkle in a few more if you don’t get too tired (but I did notice attendance has been slipping & that got 2 change)

Charlie Beeston (查兴杰)

I am standing for the position of President because I am motivated and eager to continue building a society that truly serves its members.

As Social Media & Marketing Officer (2023 – 2024), I helped kick bots from group chats, establish the WhatsApp community, generate over 25+ Instagram posts, and, in two hours, at the Welcome Fair, increase the number of followers by 70+ (yes, I counted).

I have the necessary leadership experience to be President. I have led pro bono social impact consulting projects, spoken as a campus tour guide (receiving rounds of applause), performed stand-up comedy in Mully’s, and vlogged as a MAPS digital ambassador.

If elected…

  1. I plan to organise the biggest and best STEM ball and Boat Party that the society has ever seen.
  2. I aim to establish a family system to provide mentorship across years to create a strong sense of community.
  3. I aim to acquire and secure more funds and sponsorships so that even more events can be planned for its members.
  4. And I will work closely with the committee to ensure NatSciSoc remains inclusive and engaging.

As an upcoming Fourth Year, I understand what it means to be a Natural Sciences student - clashing timetables, uncertain career paths, and awkward transitions between departments. This puts me in a great position to effectively represent every Natural Science students and bridge divides.

I am committed to continue shaping NatSciSoc into a vibrant community that enriches and enhances our university experience.
