Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering Society: President

Hi, my name is Joy and I am in my second year studying for a Medical Physics integrated masters degree. I have enjoyed participating in the MPBE society as treasurer which I was responsible for all events’ transactions and seeking grant funding opportunities. Under my financial budgeting leadership, we have achieved active member growth of over 400%, and advocated inclusivity of student engagement by large coverage of activity expenses at our events. As president of the society, I would combine the strengths of all committee members and willingly seek out all exciting opportunities for budgeting students, with the hope to continue offering amazing industry-related experience and socially engaging events for each MPBE member.

Visions for 2025-26:

• Visit into industry (AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Siemens …)
• Research-related TEDx collaboration
• Expertise talks on Biotech Innovation
• Boat party
• Drinks and Thinks cocktail multi-societal event
• Joint pub crawl in freshers' week
• Arts and Crafts afternoons, pub nights

Hello! I'm Ashley, a 2nd year Biomed Engineering student :) I'm running to be your next president because I want to make our society more engaging and supportive! I’m currently the welfare officer for MPBE and have been working closely with the committee to bring you all our events this year. 

As president, I hope to increase the number of active members by introducing more exciting opportunities and events. I aim to work closely with the department and bring you more academic opportunities such as company visits abroad like our upcoming Siemens trip and Cochlear facility visit in Sweden! I also want to increase collaborations with other societies to bring you speaker events, discussions, and debates about things like bioethics.   

I also want to keep the community fun and welcoming with events like the fresher’s picnic, boat party, game nights, pub nights and more! Socials are a great way to make new friends (or connect on linkedin if you’re into that), or just if you want to spend some extra time with the people you already see every day in class.

I am very excited to continue what this society has started this year, and I would be honoured to have a part in making this society the best it’s ever been. Thank you for your consideration :)
