Mahjong Society: President

I’m Miranda, and am thrilled to be running for President of the Mahjong Society. To put it simply, I popped out of my mother’s womb playing Mahjong - or at least, it felt that way. Over the years, Mahjong has become more than just a pastime; it’s a part of my life, my family, and my identity. Growing up with those smooth, plastic tiles has shaped me in ways I never expected. And now, I want to use that lifelong love and passion for Mahjong to give back to the community at UCL.

As President, I’ll focus on creating an inclusive, welcoming space where everyone feels comfortable, whether you’re a complete beginner or a seasoned player. I aim to continue regular events, from casual socials to competitive tournaments, to keep things fun and exciting. I’ll also ensure there are opportunities for members to learn and improve their skills through workshops!

Collaboration with other societies is key. I plan to work with cultural and academic societies to host joint events that will showcase Mahjong to even more people. It is an incredible game to chat, mingle and network over - it would be a shame not to utilise this unique feature to collaborate with various societies to get to know more people!

I’m passionate about Mahjong and the sense of connection it fosters. If you want a President who will work hard to make the Mahjong Society engaging, fun, and vibrant, I’d be honored to have your vote. Let’s keep the game alive at UCL and make this society the best it can be!

My name is Alvin, and I am a third-year Chemical Engineering student. This year, I have had the privilege of serving as the Treasurer of our society, overseeing our finances, making sure events are running smoothly and actively contributing to our events. 

This year, we have seen remarkable growth—not only in the number of members but also in the quality and success of our events. From well-organized competitions to exciting collaborations with other societies, we have strengthened our community and created memorable experiences for everyone involved. 

Now, I am excited to take the next step and run for President. I will continue this growth, ensuring that our society remains a welcoming and engaging space for all members.
