Hi everyone! I am Naomi, a second-year Biochemistry student and a current writer & editor of Kinesis Magazine. Over this academic year, I've truly enjoyed contributing to Kinesis’s publications and participating in different workshops & socials. It has been incredible to be part of this community, and I would like to take on a more active role by standing for a committee position.
I understand the importance of fostering a space where members feel valued and encouraged in their work. Therefore, by joining the committee as Welfare Officer, I hope to create an inclusive environment within the society and ensure that members going through difficult times know where to seek help. I also hope to organise more events to promote member well-being, such as creative workshops, crochet / coffee sessions and movie nights that not only allow members to connect with like-minded peers, but also provide a welcoming and relaxing space to take a break from studies.
In terms of experience, I am currently the events officer of Cancer Charity Alliance, social media officer of Knitting Society and media & marketing representative of Biochemistry Society, I was also a transition mentor earlier this year. Through these roles, I have developed strong organisational, communication, and event-planning skills, which I am eager to bring to this position, and I am particularly driven by the opportunity this role provides to create a supportive space where members feel comfortable and valued.
Hello everyone!
I’m Summer and I am currently a second-year student studying Applied Medical Sciences. As a member of Kinesis Magazine, being a part of this scientific community has greatly impacted how I reflect on my writing skills and how I approach opportunities not just within the society. This therefore led me to apply for the position of Welfare officer, as I believe everyone has the right to feel safe in what they create, and have access to the events Kinesis Magazine hosts.
As a welfare officer, my main priority would be to provide support to editors and illustrators in the publishing process, making it easier to contribute without the pressure of having to present something perfect. Allowing members to voice improvements the society needs also allows a closer community and accommodates everyone with their struggles. Therefore, by running for welfare officer, I hope to continue contributing to the Kinesis Magazine society, coming from just a member to being part of the committee and support everyone no matter what.
