I’m sure that the British masses look upon kendo with awe at its samurai roots, unaware that the samurai were heavy social drinkers. Today, the same goes for the inheritors of their art—except instead of opening ornate and expensive sake, we chug down at the pub after every practice. Therefore, it’s totally in line with tradition that drinking and socials form an important core of Kendo Club, and that I, lover of both, should be your Events Officer this coming year.

What do I bring to the Committee? My perfectionistic organisation skills. An uncanny talent for walking up to people and talking. Conciseness and efficiency. Commitment to kendo (including practice at UCL, I spend 8 hours a week swinging my shinai around). But if nothing else, the one thing I can guarantee you is that I’ll bring my best energy—to my duties, to practice, to making sure everyone has a good time. Our club is growing, from Eric the single surviving fresher of his year to our burgeoning first-year numbers today, and although I cannot doubt the bromance power of whacking each other with bamboo sticks, we’ll need more events for us all!

Movie nights? Picnic potlucks at Hyde Park? As your Events Officer, even the half-joking maid café will be within reach (I know the Anime Society president). I promise a consistent schedule of events throughout the year and regular review of your suggestions. Vote for me and I’ll finally make it up to you for only hitting and never being hit during practice.
