UCL Jazz Society has been one of the highlights of my university experience. Having been involved in every aspect—choir, big band, small bands, workshops, house band, and multiple productions—I understand the society inside and out. That’s why I believe I would be a strong and effective leader.
Over the past two years, I have performed in, directed, MD’d, and attended numerous events, giving me a well-rounded understanding of the society’s musical, social, and production aspects. This community has helped me grow as a musician, meet incredible talent, and find a true sense of belonging. I’ve always encouraged others to get involved, and as president, I want to ensure that every member—new and returning—has the same opportunities to thrive.
I am highly organized, reliable, and used to balancing multiple responsibilities. If elected, this role would be my top priority, and I am committed to leading the society with dedication and enthusiasm.
One of my key aims is to establish a more consistent welfare scheme and ensure fairer opportunities for all members—whether through external gigs, show bidding, or better access to resources. I want Jazz Soc to remain a welcoming, passionate, and creative space where musicians of all levels feel inspired to collaborate, perform, and put on incredible shows.
With my leadership experience, dedication, and deep passion for this society, I would be honoured to act as your President for the next academic year.
Hi! I'm Adam. I have been in jazz society for two years now. Big band, socials, and jams have been a major part of my university life - I've met so many amazing people here and have had so much fun. I am running for president because I have a genuine passion about the society and I would love the opportunity to give back.
If elected, I'd build on the foundations created by Jung Woo by:
- Tidying and organizing the storeroom so gear can be moved efficiently
- Organizing more social events between big band and choir to help the society become more cohesive
- Continuing to improve the workshops to help members improve as musicians
In addition to building on last year, I would like to:
- Create a 3-year "plan" for Jazz society, allowing longer-term goals to actually be completed.
- Reconnect with jazz alumni to build professional relationships and learn from their experiences, while avoiding past issues.
- Formalize the gig band selection process to make it fair for everyone
I would love to work alongside committee to achieve these goals, aiming to grow talent while also nurturing the social life of the society.
My time as Big Band manager and director of Jazz Reimagined has taught me a lot about leading and organizing, while also working in a team to achieve a common goal. I believe I have the skills and experience to lead the society next year!
Thank you for considering me for president, I would be honoured to have your vote!
