Marni Ono

Hi everyone!

I am Marni Ono, a first-year architecture student at the Bartlett. I am excited to step out of my comfort zone and nominate myself as the next president of the Japan Soc.

Why Me?

- Although I spend a lot of time at the Bartlett, I believe I have the ability to balance all responsibilities. (I never dapped😬)
For the past 12 years, I have been attending Japanese school every Saturday

- I work part-time, tutoring Japanese to people of various ages. Reflecting my strong time management skills and enthusiasm for spreading and teaching Japanese language and culture.

- I enjoy attending Japan Soc as I have made many friends through these events. I would like to give back by becoming a committee member.

What I offer:

- I would maintain the Japan Society's welcoming qualities and enjoyable events. On top, I would love to collaborate with more societies and create events that blend traditional and innovative ideas from my multicultural perspective.

- More photos, video on J Soc social media and listening to member voices. I will create engaging content to grow Japan Society

- Integrating niche Japanese events and activities:
Hinamatsuri, Setsubun, mochi tsuki

- More opportunity to network through industries and across unis

- More discounts and partnerships with companies

I will make J Soc a society engaging for all ages and backgrounds.
I look forward to meeting more people at J Soc!

Thank you for reading!

Mayuko Yamaguchi

Hi everyone! This is Mayuko, running for Japan Soc President, and I’d love to share a little about why I’m passionate about taking on this role.

Being a part of this society, I’ve seen how special our community is, and if I’m lucky enough to be elected, I want to make sure that every single one of us feels even more connected, supported, and excited to be part of the Japan Society.

Why me?

As I’ve been actively involved in the society as a sub-committee member and a level 4 language teacher, I understand what makes this society invaluable, and I’m excited to bring my ideas, energy, and commitment to Japan Soc. My experience as a peer-mentor and co-founder of a club in high school helped me develop strong communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills, all of which I believe are essential for the role.

My Goals

Here’s what I’d love to work on:

  1. Welcoming Environment for All
  • making sure everyone feels heard, through better and clear communication (eg. feedback forms, WhatsApp/Discord network)
  • casual meetups, utilising office hours
  1. Exciting Events
  • cultural/seasonal events (eg. Halloween party, bounenkai, hanami, anime screenings)
  1. Learning and Career Opportunities
  • more practical and engaging Japanese lessons
  • talks/workshops focus on career paths in Japan
  1. Collaborations and Partnerships
  • more collab events within and beyond UCL
  • increase membership discounts and sponsors

I’d be so honoured to have your support and to work with all of you to make our society an even better place to be :))
