I am applying for the role of Sports Officer to coordinate and develop the UCL Indian Society football team. Having played Sunday League football, I understand the importance of team organisation, match preparation, and squad management. At school, I also organised charity football matches, handling logistics, team selection, and event promotion, which has given me experience in planning fixtures and engaging players. If elected, I will ensure regular training sessions, arrange inter-society and inter-university matches, and work with the Treasurer and Sponsorship Officer to secure funding for new kits and equipment. I also want to make football more accessible by organising casual kickabouts and improving communication within the team. My experience in football, event organisation, and teamwork makes me well-suited for this role, and I am committed to ensuring a well-structured and active football programme for the society.
Hello, I’m Sami, and I’m excited to run for Head of Sports for UCL Indian Society!
Sports have been a huge part of my life. I was captain of Slough Synchronised Ice Skating for two years, leading my team to Gold in national competitions both years, and I had the incredible opportunity to represent GB in Belgium for U18 ice skating. Beyond skating, I’ve been passionate about athletics, swimming, and bouldering for years—I’ve been bouldering since I was six, and you’ll still find me at Euston Wall every Monday after lectures!
In secondary school, I was Sports Captain for my house, leading my team to first place in both Sports Days—by miles! Organising and motivating my team taught me leadership, teamwork, and resilience, skills I will bring to UCL Indian Society to create exciting, well-run sports events that everyone can enjoy.
Sports have taught me discipline, adaptability, and the value of using physical activity to connect with others. It’s not just about competition but also socialising, making friends, and improving mental and physical well-being.
Leading my ice skating team through and after COVID taught me resilience and organisation— which will help me thrive as Head of Sports. I want to make UCL Indian Society’s sports events more inclusive and focus on expanding the range of sports we offer, from casual games to competitive tournaments, so everyone can get involved.
With my experience and passion, I’m ready to take sports at UCL Indian Society to the next level. Thanks!
I’m excited about the opportunity to be the Head of Sports for Indian societies at our university. I have played many sports including hockey, netball, dance, and swimming but my main sport is kickboxing. I have a black-brown belt in kickboxing and have experience teaching younger students. As Head of Sports, I will ensure that everyone, regardless of skill level, has the opportunity to participate in and enjoy sports. I’m committed to organizing a variety of events and activities that cater to all abilities, creating an environment where everyone feels encouraged and confident to get involved. My focus will be on inclusivity, making sure that all members feel welcome and supported, whether they are experienced athletes or newcomers. I am capable of organizing both competitive tournaments and casual sports events that promote teamwork, sportsmanship, and fitness.
I have done kickboxing since the age of 11, where I not only trained but also taught classes to children aged 5 to 10 for about 2 years. This allowed me to develop strong organizational skills. I was responsible for planning and executing these lessons, making sure everything from lesson plans to equipment was in place and that classes were engaging and well-structured. This experience has prepared me to organize sports events and activities efficiently and smoothly. I think that these skills will help me be a good Head of sports.
I would love to be Head of Sports for Indian Society. I have enjoyed playing sports my whole life. I have played cricket, badminton, hockey and netball and have experience playing games in all of these. I have also captained some teams and trained at county level for both hockey and cricket, therefore I feel that I have the relevant experience to promote sports in the society. I would love to create new teams and hold regular training sessions for different sports.
My plans:
– Organizing regular inter-society and inter-university fixtures.
– Introducing regular cricket and netball teams, alongside exploring other sports based on interest.
– Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned player, I’ll ensure everyone gets a chance to play and be part of the community.
I am excited to apply for the role of Head of Sports for UCL Indian Society, bringing both experience and passion for sports to the position. I have been actively involved in a wide range of sports both inside and outside of university, giving me the knowledge and network to successfully coordinate and expand the society’s sporting activities.
As a dedicated member of RUMS CC, I am already well-integrated within UCL’s sports scene, which will be invaluable when organizing fixtures. My connections within university sports teams could definitely help organise internal fixtures, such as matchups between RUMS and the Indian Society, bringing a stronger sporting culture within the community.
Beyond university, I have prior experience in a similar role, having successfully organized charity sporting events and fundraisers between different schools in our network. This has given me the logistical and leadership skills necessary to handle inter-society and inter-university games, while also working with the treasurer and sponsorship director to secure funding for new kits etc.
I not only want to enhance football fixtures, but also establish regular cricket and netball teams and other sports beyond that - I'm committed to making Indian Society sports bigger, better, and more inclusive. As the biggest Indian society in the UK, we should have a sporting scene to match that and I'm ready to bring my experience and organizational skills to the role.
Dear Committee,
I am writing to express my interest in the role of Sports Director. Balancing my studies in Medicine with a love for sports and robotics has taught me the value of discipline, teamwork, and resilience—qualities I plan to bring to this role. I am fully committed to making this vision a reality and ensuring a sustainable sports programme.
On-Field Experience: I’ve represented UCL at NHSF nationals in Kho Kho and am actively involved in cricket and rugby from school, bringing a competitive edge and team spirit to all sports activities.
Leadership & Initiative: I launched a climbing group for medics that has become a key weekly activity, demonstrating the importance of initiative and building community.
New Ventures: I’m exploring setting up a Kabaddi team at UCL and excited to introduce sports like cricket and netball into our society’s roster. I plan for inter-society fixtures and university-wide games to create lasting connections.
Collaborative Spirit: Through my robotics experience, I’ve worked with teams and sponsors to secure funding and collaborations. I look forward to partnering with the treasurer and sponsorship director to ensure we have the resources for new kits and equipment.
I am committed to ensuring that UCL Indian Society’s sports programme grows and thrives. With my experience, energy, and passion, I’m excited to contribute to making the upcoming year memorable for everyone involved.
Thank you,
Hitesh
