Molly Shah

Hi everyone!

I’m Molly and I’m thrilled at the opportunity to become Social Secretary of the UCL Indian Dance Society where I can combine my creativity and organisational skills to plan exciting events that bring our members together. Dance has always been a huge part of my life as I have been learning and performing both Bharatanatyam and Bollywood from a young age. Being a member of this society has been one of the highlights of my time at UCL and I want to share and celebrate the vibrancy and energy of Indian dance with the UCL community.

What excites me most about this role is the ability to create unforgettable experiences for our members. From themed socials and collaborative events with other societies to workshops with professional dancers, I have so many ideas to make our events even more engaging and inclusive. I want to ensure that every member feels welcomed and excited to be part of this community. Dance has always been a source of joy and connection for me, and I’d be honoured to help create that same sense of belonging for others with some incredible social events. I look forward to using my organisational skills and collaborative experience to plan exciting events and would love your support in order to do so!

Sanjana Kamineni

Hi everyone! I’m Sanjana and I would love to be your next social secretary for Indian Dance society. Meeting so many new people through some of the weekly workshops to participating in the Christmas showcase, Naach, my experience thus far with IDS has been memorable, and one of my favourite parts of first year.

From choreographing for my school’s sixth form entertainment to helping out backstage at my dance school’s annual showcase of Bharatanatyam, I’ve learned to develop skills of organising my time and resources to best suit an event, given the timeline. Skills of adaptibility and effective communication, such as rephrasing myself concisely to better express my point of view or changing up my style of teaching dance according to the experience of the dancers, are invaluable when transferred to assisting other members of the Indian dance Soc committtee, especially in the run-up to events such as Naach.

As a bharatanatyam dancer joining Indian dance society earlier this year, I was excited yet hesitant to try different dance forms but the committee never failed to be encouraging and supportive. Now I can confidently say I’ve tried garba (despite the number of times I bumped into people!), lavani and so many more. Hence, I hope to help other members of the committee and society itself feel as welcome and supported as I did, as your next social secretary of Indian dance society. Thank you!

Mihir Raj Aryan

The role of the Social Secretary aligns with the experience I have in organising events and managing logistics. I was the lead organiser for GIIS Model United Nation and GIIS Youth TEDx for my school. TEDx required reaching out to corporate speakers and lecturers at prominent universities and reaching out to external vendors for the AV team, food catering, T-shirt printing, etc. The professional scale of the event allowed me to hone the proper etiquette, diligence and responsibility required while interacting with vendors and running the event on the day. This skill can be applied to interacting with the student union and external vendors (like in the case of the trip to watch wicked) to balance their demands with ours as a club. To work around time slots they may provide for the welcome fair or any other constraint !

Importantly however when organising events such as the welcome fair and cultural fair a level of enthusiasm is important to encourage people to join the society and come to the weekly classes. This is what worked for me, when I first interacted with this club during the welcome fair it was the current Social Sec (Neel) who's enthusiasm towards the club encouraged me to join, after which it became a regular part of my week. This motivation is something I hope to replicate. I believe my experience can add value to the Indian dance society committee while the memories and friendships in the committee can add value to me.

Mandheep Dasi

Hello everyone,

I’m Mandheep and I’m very excited to be running for Social Secretary. Over the past year, being a part of the society has genuinely been such an enjoyable and exciting experience. Now, I’d love the opportunity to give back and continue making our society even more vibrant and connected.

I’m dedicated to bringing people together and ensuring everyone feels included, regardless of their dance experience. Previously, I never spent much time dancing, but joining this society has given me a space to perform in a non-judgemental environment, and I’m so grateful for that. As your Social Sec, I’ll do my absolute best to strengthen our sense of community, which in my opinion is the best part of our society.

As Social Secretary, I would create more opportunities for us to bond beyond rehearsals and performances. I’d love to collaborate with other cultural societies to host fun fusion events, like joint workshops or even dance battles to bring out some friendly competition. I also want to introduce more casual workshops, where we can come together in a laid-back setting and simply enjoy the love we have for dance, without any pressure.

I truly believe that our society is for everyone, whether you’re a seasoned dancer or someone who just loves to vibe with the beats. As Social Secretary, I’ll ensure that every event feels welcoming, creative, and packed with good energy. Let’s make next year the most exciting and memorable one yet. Thank you so much for considering me
