I love mixed hockey.
It has consistently been one of my favourite parts of the week and I think it is one of the best things you can get involved in within the club. Sunday hockey is something that is so accessible and provides a great opportunity to meet and play with all sorts of people you may not have otherwise gotten to know. It’s something so integral to club dynamics and I feel very strongly about it; I would love to be captain to help ensure it remains something everyone feels they can try out and enjoy.
It comes as no surprise that I’ve got “experience” given I’ve been here for a gazillion years, but I have captained, written social posts, and played more mixed matches than I care to mention, which are all things which I think would make me a good candidate. Through playing mixed I have gotten to know the regulars and the newbies alike, so despite being a seasoned 5th year, I reckon I’d still be sufficiently down with the kids to continue the pretty unreal mixed legacy.
Hey everyone,
I have really enjoyed playing mixed this year. It has given me the opportunity for more hockey, more integration within the club and of course the bonus of having a Todd-Cycles family day out.
I feel as though I have shown my dedication to mixed when I was stuck in Uxbridge for 3 hours on my own after finding out that the game had been delayed. After falling asleep on a bench and then getting absolutely battered by Brunell, I did not let this put me off my love for a Sunday mixed match.
If I am mixed captain next year I will aim to encourage more people to get involved with mixed, especially the freshers. To do so, I would like to organise a pre season or a couple of training sessions to help the freshers or people who have not played mixed before feel more comfortable playing with MHC especially if they have never played a mixed game before just like I hadn't until this year. Even though I was quite nervous to play mixed at first, I immediately felt welcome on the pitch even when I did not know any of MHC and only a few from WHC. Making people feel welcome is something I will ensure next year especially for the freshers. I also hope that I can follow Isabel's footsteps in representing the 3s as mixed captain next year.
Can't wait for another year of mixed as there is nowhere else I'd rather be on a Sunday than the pub playing games that i still haven't managed to figure out the rules of.
Thank you for listening
