Candidates

Karl Dumasia

As a second-year BSc Biomedical Sciences student with a strong interest in finance, I have been actively involved in the UCL Hedge Fund Society, attending key events to deepen my understanding of the industry. My experience extends to committee roles in the UCL Economics and Finance Society (Director of Client Relations) and UCL Guild Society (Guild Gazette Exec), as well as authoring weekly reports for the Sortino M&A Group. Additionally, I have refined my analytical and investment skills through two summer internships, equipping me with the experience to contribute meaningfully to the society.

My commitment to the society extends beyond attendance – I want to expand opportunities for members by using industry connections to secure top-tier speakers, organize practical investment workshops, and foster closer ties with industry professionals and recruiters. Leveraging my experience in client relations, sponsorship acquisition, and welfare initiatives, I aim to enhance funding for bigger events while ensuring members feel supported in their career journeys.

If elected, I will ensure more hands-on experiences, mentorship programs, and career-focused networking, while also prioritizing student well-being through welfare initiatives that promote inclusivity and accessibility.

I am excited to run for Welfare Officer of UCL’s Hedge Fund Society. The world of finance can be high-pressure, and I want to ensure that every member feels supported, both academically and personally. If elected, I will work to create a positive and inclusive environment where students can thrive while navigating the challenges of this competitive field.

My focus will be on promoting well-being and ensuring that our events support both professional growth and student welfare. I will organise initiatives such as study support groups and mental health awareness discussions if needed to help members balance academic, career, and personal commitments. Additionally, I will ensure that the society remains accessible to all, fostering a culture where every student feels welcome and valued.

Finance is demanding, but no one should have to manage stress alone. I will actively promote university well-being resources and encourage open conversations about mental health. By working closely with the committee, I will ensure that welfare remains a priority in all society activities.

Together, we can build a society that not only prepares members for careers in hedge funds but also supports them every step of the way.
