Hedge Fund Society

UCL Hedge Fund Society is dedicated to preparing students for careers in finance through a hands-on, practical approach. We combine real-world investment training with application support to give members both the skills and the edge to secure top internships. Here is what we do:

The HFS Fund
Our fund runs six investment pods: four long/short equity and two global macro. Each pod is led by a Portfolio Manager with four analysts, who build research, models and pitches and present weekly stock and macro pitches. Top performers join our Flagship team, run directly by the President and CIO.

Fireside Chats & Industry Talks
We host fireside chats and talks with senior leaders from across the hedge fund and banking industry, with speakers this year from firms including Citadel, Elliott and Deutsche Bank. These sessions give members an inside view of how leading investors think, how their firms operate, and what it takes to build a career on the buy side, along with the chance to ask questions directly.

Careers, Mentorship & Networking
Our fund committee holds 50+ spring weeks and internships across firms including Citadel, Point72, Millennium, D.E. Shaw, Jane Street, Man Group, Brevan Howard, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, G-Research, Optiver, IMC and DRW. We pass that on through a Spring Week crash course, CV and interview prep, recruiter talks and networking events.

Industry partners
We work with Point72, Jane Street, Citadel and Millennium, including events like the Jane Street Fullhouse Hackathon.

This is your chance to be part of something extraordinary from the ground up. We're looking for enthusiastic, committed students to fill our leadership roles, to drive our initiatives, and shape the society's future. Whether your interests lie in stock pitching, hedge fund simulation, or societal representation, there is a place for you within our team.

Student groups are run by UCL students and facilitated by Students’ Union UCL. The Union is an educational charity and part of how it supports the education of students at UCL is through facilitating a diverse range of opportunities for students to run, join and experience different interests, groups and activities. Each student group decides its own events, activities and views (within our risk management framework).

Student groups are intended to represent the full range of views amongst our diverse student community. The Union does not endorse, approve or speak for any student group, and their statements and activities do not represent the Union’s position.
