Hi everyone!
I’m Meron and in my second year of studying Social Sciences BSc. This year I had the incredible honor of serving as your treasurer for the Habesha Society. Reflecting on the past year fills me with so much gratitude and joy. Meeting all of you, building connections, and hosting events that brought our community together has been one of the most rewarding experiences. It truly feels like a privilege to be part of such a vibrant and supportive community, and I’m excited about the opportunity to continue contributing to its growth and success in the next academic year.
As an Ethiopian living in the UK, I know firsthand how challenging it can be to find people who share the same cultural experiences and values (especially those I’m not related to lol). That’s why the Habesha Society means so much to me. It’s a space where we can come together, relate to one another, share laughter, and celebrate our rich heritage. Being part of this community has been a source of comfort, joy, and belonging, and I’m deeply grateful for that.
Looking ahead to next year, I’m excited to build on the momentum we’ve created. You can expect even more amazing events, such as cultural nights, networking opportunities, collaborative projects with other societies, and initiatives that celebrate and educate others about our traditions. My goal is to ensure that the Habesha Society continues to be a welcoming and uplifting space for everyone.

I am standing for Treasurer of the Habesha Society because I am keen to take on a leadership role that would contribute to the growth of a community which I deeply value.
I am a creative problem solver, trustworthy and collaborative which ensures that I will work well with my team to ensure the effective organisation, management and success of our society. With A Levels in Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Computer Science (A*, A*, A*, A) coupled with my current study in Physics, I have developed a strong numerical background which would equip me to efficiently and accurately handle the society’s finances. I would utilise my analytical skills to make informed financial decisions. In addition to this, my role as a UCL tutor has strengthened key skills for this post including responsibility, organisation, communication and time management. This role would enable me to utilise my skills to ensure financial transparency within the society.
I aim to create a well-structured budget which will ensure that our society remains financially sustainable. I am driven to secure funding opportunities which would enhance the scope of our events and encourage greater member participation. Ultimately, this would expand opportunities for members to connect, celebrate our culture and bring the community together.
I am committed to ensuring that every financial decision would be made with the best interest of the society and its members in mind so that we are able to thrive as a united community.
