I would love to be a part of the UCLFC committee and its longstanding history. Having raised a respectable £508 during Movember, it is evident I just love charity. Being charity sec I would do the most I could to make sure everyone is equally as involved in events like Movember in the future and finding others likewise to show how charitable the club is.

Cody Collins

I am choosing to apply for the role of the charity secretary as, over the past 6 months of being at university, I have developed a strong passion and connection for the UCL football club. My enjoyment for the sport, along with the comradery with my teammates has played a massive part in my experience of my first year at university. I would love to play a role in developing this passion for other people, especially in those who are nervous just starting university; I know exactly how they feel.

Even despite the admiration I have for the club, there are certain things I would like to change and implement, such as a buddy system for first year students at social events and introducing further charitable initiatives considering the clubs great success with Movember. Being the charity secretary would give me a strong standing, to voice these ideas and potentially even lead to further involvement in the committee in the years to come.

On a more personal level, I have struggled with mental health issues in the past and, with men finding it hard to talk in the current society, I really appreciate the fact that the club is bold in their support for men going through mental health issues - reflected in the club's participation in Movember. With that being said, this motivates me to lead the charity events and be even prouder to represent the club. Hopefully, being in a position of authority, I would inspire other young men going through similar situations.

As someone who is very passionate about both charity and more importantly the UC, I would be a great fit for the role of charity secretary next year. Here are a few main reasons why you should vote for me:

  • I have been heavily involved in charity work for a while now. Before uni, I often volunteered in a soup kitchen and raised copious amounts at school. During Movember, I raised the 2nd highest amount of money, bested only by the billionaire aristocrat Ben.
  • I’m heavily involved in the club, attending most socials and games for the mighty 5’s, and would love to increase my presence next year as a member of the committee.
  • I am very confident that with me at the helm of the charity side of the club we can reach the goal of raising £10k for Movember, if I do struggle to grow any moustache of my own (see picture). My philosophy stems from the idea of having more encouragement for players to make an effort in raising money, as too many people didn’t even sign up this year, let alone raise anything.
