Having been a member of Film Soc for the last few years, I have loved being on set and meeting an incredible group of people. However, I distinctly remember how nervous I was at my first event, and how scary it was to be surrounded by people who already seemed to know each other. As welfare officer, I want to help to make Film Soc as inclusive as possible, expanding the society to people who may never have been involved before but would really like to be, making involvement less daunting. I also am passionate about welfare issues specifically and want to be as approachable as possible for people if they have any specific concerns which they want to raise privately - I want to encourage people to speak up about anything which worries them about the society or while on set of term films. As welfare officer I would also be interested in working on what has been built over the last few years with GendFilm, helping the society to be more open to queer and female students, something that was certainly an issue when I joined UCL!

Hi everyone! My name is Sabrina Hart, and in the 2025/2026 academic year, I will be a third year in the classics program. I joined the Film and TV Society this year, and the most important part of both media types to me is the emotions they evoke. Film and TV are two of the most powerful media forms at our disposal, and learning about them helps us to better understand ourselves and our world. I hope to be the Welfare Officer for our society because of the importance of these media- I love how many topics and issues Film and TV can explore, but know that some content can be overwhelming depending on everyone’s experiences. It is essential that everyone feels safe, welcomed, and appreciated on set, and I want to create that community for all members. I want to help create a society atmosphere where our community creates media that reflects important and ideas, and where people feel comfortable expressing their experiences and feelings with that content.
I was the In Aid of UNICEF Welfare Officer for this academic year, and I loved connecting with members over the society’s mission, and creating events and spaces where we were all able to have fun and bring up any concerns anyone had. I truly hope to do the same in the Film and TV Society and promise to be someone you can turn to with confidentiality for support, celebration, or any concerns you have, whether that is within the society or at university in general. I look forward to getting to know everyone in more depth soon!

I'm running for Welfare Secretary because I want to help make the film society a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive space for everyone. Filmmaking should be creative and fun, but it can also be demanding, so I want to ensure that members feel heard, valued, and able to enjoy the process. Having been involved in the society as Socials and Screenings Officer, I understand the importance of building a strong community, and I’d love to continue fostering a positive environment where everyone feels comfortable collaborating, learning, and creating together! :)

I'm in Madrid right now working for a small independent film company on my year abroad, but last year I got really involved in FilmSoc and next year would love to get involved again, this time on committee! I was lucky to have a big role on two projects last year as director of the T2 fiction film Like Nobody's Watching and as a producer of Gendfilm Baggage. I have experience being on a society committee, as I was on GenFem committee in 2nd year, and I'd love to apply what I've learned from it to FilmSoc! I think I'd be a great welfare officer because of the experience I've had with these responsibilities: as a producer one of my major jobs was to look after the welfare of the cast and crew on a very long and tiring 3 day shoot, making sure everyone's mental/physical health was looked after, that the team was working well together, listening to everyone, and being the first port of call whenever anyone had problems or concerns. Because of my involvement with Gendfilm as well as being the BAME representative for the GenFem society, I am really aware and passionate about the importance of diversity, inclusion, accessibility, and intersectionality within a society, so I will always keep these issues at the forefront when dealing with welfare. I've personally struggled with my mental health since being at uni and having a support system to reach out to has been one of the most important things for me, so I would love to be able to provide that support system for others now too!

The UCL Film Society has long been a community I have admired and have hoped to be a part of. Having the opportunity to be Welfare Officer for such a creative and unique society would be a great privilege. I believe that my experience leading a Film Production club at a sixth form college and my experience producing and directing short films as part of my course would make me a great asset to the team. I consider myself to be a truly empathetic person who is patient and a friendly face to all, therefore I believe I would thrive in the role of Welfare Officer.
