Organisation, communication and collaboration are the important elements which allow EISPS society to successfully function. I am running for secretary general this year because I understand the critical role the secretary general plays in a successful EISPS society. Secretary general strengthens the communication between the society leadership, the society members and third parties. I have the communication skills for this role. I am able to cohesively get my point across in discussions, but also an active and sympathetic listener. I am no stranger to public speaking whether in presentations, through speech or on stage. I care for the opinions of others and am always curious to learn from my peers. I am calm and open-minded in discussion, therefore frequently the one who finds a compromise between arguing parties, I am a strong mediator.
I am also a strong organiser, no stranger to planning events. For example in my role in my school's graduation committee I worked to help find the venue communicating between school leadership and the venue staff, as well as working on event scheduling and on coaching our class speakers for the stage. I am flexible, I am always ready to help out with whatever needs to be done, whether it's phoning venues or emailing society members. I am proactive, I do not need to be promoted to take necessary action.
My adaptability, communicative skills and organisational abilities are why I believe I am a good fit to be secretary general.
I want to be General Secretary of the EISPS Society because I know how much this degree brings together people from different backgrounds, interests and career paths. The society should continue to reflect that. It should be a space where people feel connected, informed and engaged, not just academically but socially too.
As editor in chief of a student newspaper I founded, I handled everything from organising writers to publishing articles and managing collaborations. Running my own tutoring business has also taught me how to balance logistics, communication and planning all at once. As Youth Officer for my local Labour Party, I have worked on building engagement and outreach, ensuring young members have a voice.
If elected, I want to ensure the EISPS Society is as active and welcoming as possible. That means making events easier to attend, improving communication and ensuring everyone, whether they are interested in academic discussions, career opportunities or just meeting people from the course, feels included. The best part is this can all start from just one well-timed and easily understandable email.
This society has so much potential and I would love the chance to help shape it.
