What I’ve achieved so far...

  • Expanded access to British Sign Language classes through the Extended Learning Opportunities scheme.
  • Raised funds for the Gender Expression Fund by introducing the bestselling LGBTQ+ History Month  cocktail.
  • Advocated for better transport links to UCL East, extended refectory hours, and open departmental spaces for society activities.
  • Represented students of faiths and beliefs in key UCL Committees.
  • Liaised with UCL to expand the Active Bystander Programme.
Please summarise why students should vote for you.

I am re-running for Equity and Inclusion Officer because I know what it’s like to exist in spaces that weren’t built with you in mind. Over the past year, I’ve gained valuable experience advocating for student voices and creating meaningful change, but my work isn’t done. I want to continue building a UCL where no one feels the need to shrink themselves to fit in, and where diversity is truly celebrated—because we all deserve to belong.

EDA for EDI: More Equitable, Diverse, and Inclusive UCL

Nestram Rickman (they/them)
What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

I would improve support services, empower Networks, & make UCL more accessible.

Support:
- help students get papers like visas & deed polls
- better support for sexual violence victims, & those from countries at war
- create a more open, understanding culture around periods
- make the anonymous reporting form more effective

Networks:
- raise more publicity
- give networks greater independence - e.g. clearer budget & better room booking capabilities

Accessibility:
- improve accessibility & inclusivity in halls
- take the onus off students to beg for support, put it on UCL to make accessibility the default

What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

My politics & IR degree has made me all the more passionate about reducing discrimination, & as Trans Officer in 2021-22, I set up the Trans Network, by publicising it, running its first committee election, hosting events, & fighting for UCL's trans community. I was the LGBT+ Network's social secretary, so am fully aware all the Networks are crucial in supporting marginalised groups. I'll ensure they have everything they need for that role. As head of school council, I gathered student feedback, & successfully campaigned to let all genders wear trousers, & make the council more democratic.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

I am more than used to voicing students' complaints to UCL & the Student Union, & would gladly continue to do so with this position. My experience with the Union means I am aware of the pitfalls others have faced, & know how to get round them. With feedback from students & Network reps, I will hold UCL accountable, & ensure it becomes more accessible, inclusive & supportive. I will be easily contactable to meet with students & provide regular updates on the work being done by Sabbs. I would greatly appreciate your vote, and hope to be an effective, experienced & responsive E&I officer.

Ken Sio (he/him)
What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

I aim to focus on 3 core pillars to foster equity and inclusion on campus:

  1. Access: Ensure there is affordable accommodation, healthy food options and activities to ensure all students can participate and enjoy staying at UCL.
  2. Support: Make sure all students are aware of avialable services and improve student experiences by actioning on feedback, implementing networks across departments.
  3. Celebrate: Foster community through events and allow students to try new activities.

I want to break down the barriers people have while studying at UCL and am always open to collaborating with students.

What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

The skills I will bring to champion voices are: Communication, Resilience, Planning and Passion

To ignite change and work effectively with the Union and marginalised groups, I will bring my experience:

  • on the Board of Trustees for the Students' Union,
  • from the Active Bystander Project as a Workshop Leader,
  • the UCL Student Wellbeing and Support Service as a Wellbeing Champion,
  • championing POC stories,
  • volunteering for national charities - ONE and YoungMinds - supporting strategic organisational decisions on Panels, and
  • various other employment roles supporting the delivery of large-scale projects.
Please summarise why students should vote for you.

As an AccessUCL student from the North East, I am more than aware that we need to make UCL a more accessible place to study: financially, socially and culturally. As your Equity & Inclusion Officer I will endeavor to constantly collaborate with marginalised groups and champion their voices across UCL and the Union.

UCL is a daunting place to be in for many - but it does not have to be. Join me in making change!
