Hello everyone!

I'm excited to stand for Head of Events for the Diplomacy Society, bringing my experience and passion for international relations to the role. As former Head of Events and current Treasurer of the UCL Italian Society, I have successfully organized high-profile events, including collaborations with the Diplomacy Society at the Italian Embassy and with a member of the House of Lords. These experiences not only strengthened my event-planning skills but also gave me a deep understanding of how the Diplomacy Society operates and what it takes to run successful, impactful events within it.

If elected, I will elevate our events by securing distinguished speakers, fostering collaborations with embassies, and creating interactive formats like panel discussions and networking sessions. My goal is to make our events the highlight of the UCL academic calendar—intellectually stimulating, well-executed, and truly valuable for our members.

Plus, vote for me and I will make sure that good food will be served at all embassy visits ;)

Ananya Agarwal

After being your first year rep, I realized I'd like to be much more involved in the society.

These are the qualities that make me perfect for the role:

  • I have a very strong experience in organization - I was the president of 2 teams back in high school which meant I constantly had to organize events for fundraising, or networking, or charity events. I know how adaptable and patient you have to be and I know how to lead a team.
  • I am a first year rep so I understand how the society functions and it's strengths/limitations. I know how to work my way around it. Additionally, I also know what type of events my fellow first year reps crave - and I will make sure you get them.
  • Lastly, I have a relationship with the existing committee. This not only helps the team dynamics improve, but also allows the execution of the events to be smoother and easier on the day.

What I would do as a head of event:

  • I would send out forms and surveys to understand what types of events not only the first years want but also the rest of the society.
  • Reflection is the most important thing to better a society, I will understand what works well in events and what doesn't and make those changes in the upcoming events.
  • Increase our collaborations with different societies and bring in new aspects of diplomacy as well like global development.

I have so many ideas - and you will only find them out if you vote for me!

Cici Chen

Hey!

I am Cici, a second-year Politics & International Relations student, and I am excited to run for Head of Events again after a year in this role!

Over the past year, I’ve successfully organised embassy visits, speaker events, and cultural activities, gaining a strong understanding of what makes an engaging and well-run event. My internships in the electric vehicle and semiconductor industries, as well as with two respected NGOs, have strengthened my ability to think across disciplines, manage responsibilities, and coordinate effectively.

Having grown up in China before continuing my education in the UK, I understand both Chinese and Western perspectives—an invaluable asset in today’s shifting global landscape. As diplomacy and dialogue become more critical than ever, I want to organise events that reflect diverse global voices and evolving dynamics. With my past experience and knowledge of how to run this role effectively, I am confident I can build on what I’ve learned and make this year’s events even better.

As Head of Events, I will focus on keeping members informed and ensuring our events reflect their interests. Key topics I want to highlight include:

  • Visits to embassies of African states, IOs, and NGOs
  • US under Trump & US-China & US-Europe relations
  • AI & Tech diplomacy in the 21st century

This role requires dedication, and I am ready to bring my experience, perspective, and commitment to society. Let’s take the Diplomacy Society forward together. Thank you for your support!

Kohen Yan

Hello! I am Kohen running for Head of Events! I am a second year student from Malaysia reading Politics and International Relations!

Favourite diplomacy topic: ASEAN nations navigating between the East and West

Fun fact: I am a firm believer that food is the best form of diplomacy!

In the role of Head of Events, I will do two things:

  1. Dinner with Diplomats! Ever feel tired and depressed after a long panel session that ends in the evening? The truth is, you're most likely just hungry/hangry! This NEW initiative extends panel sessions to be followed up with 'hanger-curing' dinner arrangements at a restaurant with our invited guests for a session of networking over food!! The best kind of networking!
  2. Open feedback channels. Ever find it difficult to communicate in the GC when only admin are allowed to send messages? I'll be opening more streams of communication between our members and committee through bi-monthly surveys on what kind of events you would like and how you think our events can be improved!
  3. And more food...? I'll promise to personally hand-pick and improve the snack selection at our events (maybe some brownies?) for those like me who are always peckish during a panel session that happens late, sometimes starting at 6pm after a busy day packed with classes :/

Why me? I am a passionate student with an international experience and deep love for food and intellectual discourse. Let’s make diplomacy delicious—vote Kohen for Head of Events!
