Hey guys - long time, no see. You’ll be sad to hear that I defrosted from the Chicago -20 polar vortex and like the flakes of cheese stuck in the grater, I won’t go away.

I joined CG in September 2022 and was a regular attendee of investigations, zine, and satire over the next two years. I've been online editor and investigations editor.

Aside from writing articles, I ran investigations meetings, created the ‘Women’s Wrongs’ website, designed the 2023 committee intro posts, wrote 10,000 WORDS of nominations for the artsUCL and SPANC awards, was runner-up ‘Best Student Journalist’ in London (2024), and survived sitting outside IOE bar every Monday in January - a truly remarkable achievement against all the odds.

I like to think I have the dedication and experience to be EIC (if Nick can survive a year without being taxidermied into the next Jeremy Bentham by the SU, then I can).

Ideas:

  • Podcast interviews (e.g. of the sabbs)
  • I love the new tabloid layout of the issues. But I like to think I have a pretty artistic eye, so I’d keep the tabloid style whilst integrating some of the creative touches from the 2022/23 issues
  • Collab with cool publications at other unis (not Kings) for satire
  • Creating a balance between breaking news and investigations
  • I’ll also revamp the merch

Adore the society, adore the pub trips, adore the winning streak - want to continue all of it. I’m still away, so if you have questions my email is rebekah.wright.22@ucl.ac.uk

Stay cool and safe. Kisses! - Rebekah xx

The Cheese Grater has had an amazing year, and I'm standing for Editor-in-Chief because I don't want this momentum to die!

Being Co-Investigations Editor this year, and more broadly, being a part of this publication, has been the highlight of my time at UCL. I'm committed to making sure The Cheese Grater has its best year yet. Here are some ways in which I plan to do that:

  • Running 'Journalism Skills' workshops outside of regular meetings. This will include the EICs, News and Investigations Editors, and Humour Editors going over the different aspects of being a journalist. This could be reviewing an article you're writing, discussing interview tips and strategies, fact-checking a piece, or addressing any other editorial concerns.
  • Expanding our social media presence to TikTok, not just through videojournalism but also by posting radio show snippets, stories from the Digestive, and general promotional content.
  • Publishing the Digestive and recording the radio show regularly, just as we did this year.
  • And, of course, fulfilling any other constitutional requirements.

Most importantly, I'd like to continue and build on CG's long tradition of being pesky as hell, and bothering, interrogating and irritating UCL management and the Students' Union. They're paid to work for our interests, so we're obliged to question them and make sure they're doing a good job!

I'm running out of characters now, but I would be honoured to be an Editor-in-Chief of this incredible publication!
