As my first competition season with UCL Lightning Cheer is coming to an end, I have been amazed by the sense of community that club fosters. Cheerleading can be a very frightening and intense sport, especially when there are outside pressures (exams, job stress, personal stresses), but having such a supportive group of students behind you makes it all much easier and way more fun.
I have often found myself naturally supporting my teammates with pep talks and extra support whenever they need it, and I feel as Welfare Officer I would be able to help not just my team but any member of the club that needs it! To be able to provide help and direct athletes towards the proper support systems that they might need, is very important to me.
I have worked as a camp counselor, offering guidance and emotional support for children aged 6-17. I was also the events coordinator for the University of York Drama Society for a year. This means I am equipped to deal with a wide array of emotional problems and have experience in large event coordination (to host non-drinking based welfare events for the club). I am also keen to learn how the club operates with charities and would be interested in hosting charity fundraising events (this being allowed of course), for example bake sales are always a major hit!
I have so much love for this club and I want to support it in any way I can!
