I’m running for Inclusivity and Outreach Officer because I want to make sure uclbc is a club where everyone—no matter their squad, experience, or background—feels like they truly belong. My novice year showed me how welcoming and supportive this community can be, and I want to build on that, as a strong, inclusive team can feel like a second home. If elected, I’d focus on strengthening inter-squad connections through more mixed training sessions and specific events to bring squads together. I also want to improve outreach by making our Freshers’ Fair presence bigger and more engaging, with interactive challenges to encourage new members (more coxes?!).
To help novices feel supported, I’d love to increase family events, so every new rower has a familiar point of contact beyond their squad, whether through casual outings or just a friendly face. Most importantly, I want to be someone you feel comfortable approaching with any inclusivity-related concerns so we can make positive changes together. I’d try to make uclbc a club where we don’t just row together—we learn from each other, celebrate our differences, and make the team better because of them. A more inclusive club isn’t just better for individuals—it strengthens our whole team, and I’d love the chance to help make that happen!
