Heidi Qin

I am a Psychology student with a strong interest in behavioural science, particularly in how behavioural techniques can be used to influence decision-making. Inspired by a BiS seminar by Max Wiggins, I am passionate about incorporating behavioural science into everyday discussions about sustainability. Thus, I am eager to contribute to the society by leading the Applied Projects, focusing on driving on-campus sustainable change.

From past projects, I learnt novel ideas about how sustainable behaviour can be induced, making Applied Projects a familiar domain. In a project targeting the UN SDG Goal 11, I advised policy-makers to reduce intergroup conflict by uniting communities through shared concerns for the COVID-19 pandemic. Recently, I collaborated with RaiseUCL on a charity project, using nudging techniques to encourage on-campus donations.

In addition, I gained valuable teamwork experience during group projects, helping me develop the essential executive skills for this role. Through leading Psychology Society in Sixth Form, I learned to brainstorm ideas while assessing their practicality, gaining creative, critical-thinking and problem-solving skills needed for guiding Applied Projects teams through their research. I also frequently initiated and mediated group discussions, and liaised with teacher supervisors, developing organisational and communication skills.

I am confident that my passion and experience will make me well-suited for this role and its upcoming challenges.
