I am applying for the role of Head of Outreach and Sponsorship because I am passionate about artificial intelligence and its impact on society. The UCL AI Society has the potential to bridge the gap between students and the industry, creating valuable learning and networking opportunities. I want to expand the society’s reach, build industry partnerships, and secure sponsorships to help fund impactful events and initiatives.
This role is crucial in ensuring that members have access to the best resources, opportunities, and connections in AI. By forming strong partnerships and securing sponsorships, we can host high-quality events, provide mentorship programs, and offer career opportunities that directly benefit our members. Outreach also plays a key role in growing our community, allowing us to engage with a diverse range of students and professionals who share a passion for AI.
As a first-year representative of the UCL AI Society and a Computer Science student, I have seen firsthand the impact this society can have on its members. I want to contribute to its growth by enhancing opportunities for students and ensuring that our society remains at the forefront of AI discussions in our community. Through strategic outreach and sponsorship efforts, I aim to provide members with the resources they need to explore AI and advance their careers. I would be honored to take on this leadership role and help drive the society forward.

Artificial Intelligence is transforming industries at an incredible pace, and I want to ensure our society not only stays ahead but becomes a hub of opportunities for our members. As Head of Outreach & Sponsorship, I will work to build strategic partnerships that bring funding, resources, and—most importantly—exclusive industry insights from leading tech companies.
Having served as Head of Events in school, I have hands-on experience in outreach, having cold-emailed over 200 companies to secure sponsorships and partnerships that elevated our events. Through this, I developed an efficient approach to crafting persuasive emails, negotiating sponsorships, and building long-term relationships with corporate partners.
Beyond financial backing, my focus will be on securing collaborations that provide real value—whether it’s access to AI industry experts, networking sessions with recruiters, or exclusive insights into how top tech firms operate. By leveraging my outreach skills, I will ensure our members gain exposure to cutting-edge developments and career opportunities in AI.
With strong industry connections, our society can become a bridge between students and the AI world, opening doors to knowledge, mentorship, and career growth. I’m ready to take on this challenge and drive these partnerships forward—let’s make it happen!

Hi everyone! I'm William Chai and I'm a first year studying BSc Computer Science.
AI is transforming our lives and reshaping the way we approach everything. I therefore recognise the desire, and more importantly the need, to create opportunities and bridge the gap between us students and the ever evolving AI landscape.
I've had extensive experience with corporate outreach; I currently serve as an Executive Councilor in the Careers Office of the largest Malaysian student organisation in the UK. I engage daily with corporate representatives from major firms and have seen firsthand the immense value they bring - whether through sponsorships, career opportunities, or knowledge-sharing
However, my vision for Outreach and Sponsorship for the AI Society is more than just passive collaboration:
1. Partner with AI startups where students can work on real industry problems, gaining mentorship and potential internships. Last year, there were over 1800 VC backed AI startups in the UK, and I plan to take advantage of this ecosystem.
2. Create a team of 'Outreach Officers'. I plan on aggressively expanding the outreach of our society - that means reaching out to more and bigger companies - with a team of dedicated students (who will of course, through this outreach build their own industry relationships).
3. More collaboration. I plan on collaborating with other societies (Finance, Law, Healthcare, Eng) to offer unique events teaching AI's impact and use across various fields.
