Hey, my name is Arthur. I know firsthand how overwhelming UCL can be for state school students, especially after being asked whether you ski or snowboard for the second time during freshers! For many, it can be easy to feel like you don’t belong, but that isn’t true. By running for Welfare and Communications Officer, I want to make sure that members of our society are never left questioning this.
In terms of relevant experience outside of professional endeavours, I have mentored a state school sixth-form student through the university application process, worked at a homeless shelter, and volunteered with a children’s reading group—showing my extensive working experience with people of various ages and demographics. These experiences have greatly enhanced my empathy and communication skills, ensuring I am the perfect fit to support our members.
Additionally, with four out of five of my immediate family members coming from an NHS mental health background, I’ve grown up in an environment where the importance of care, community, and opportunity was prominent, each a value that I wish to bring to this role.
Ultimately, I understand the importance of finding people and societies you are aligned with at UCL. If I receive your vote, I will commit to ensuring as many students as possible experience this next year, helping to grow the incredible community that is the 93% club by fostering a even more supportive atmosphere. Let’s have a great year!
Thank you for your consideration.
