Udhay Singh Cheema

Hi everyone! My name's Udhay and I'm running to be your Neurosurgery Chair to completely change the way the role has been done before, captivating a new wave of aspiring neurosurgeons and creating a new culture for the society's future. From a RUMS FC captain in my preclinical years to being the current lead of a non profit organisation encouraging children to pursue careers in surgery, my leadership experiences have gave me a unique stance on how this role should be fufilled to maximise oppurtunities for students.

Neurosurgery stands at the forefront of surgical advancement; blending technology with skill to treat debilitating conditions. I've been fortunate to engage in this field through research projects at Queen Square and in the AI & Tech space at the Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience. I aim to use these connections to enhance the Encephalon lecture series and start a collaborative workshop series focused on Neruosurgical Tech - providing hands on experience.

However, what I am most excited about, is to introduce a research and portfolio building team. Although I appreciate many people have tried unsuccessfully, my experience creating mentorship schemes and a network of connections ranging from students all the way to established neurosurgeons lends itself to supply a demand for help on research i.e. audits, reviews, etc. I will ensure that I stand at the forefront of this and offer my guidance for tailored help on portfolio building.

Cheers guys,

Udhay:-)

Jia Nag

Hello everyone! I am Jia and I would love to be your Neurosurgery Chair next year. As an aspiring surgeon, I am passionate about making neurosurgery as a career more accessible for students from all backgrounds and I aim to make this year the biggest one yet! Through my international neurosurgery research project and my surgical research presentations, I have developed skills in leadership, teamwork and communication which are key to this role. As a member of the neurosurgery core committee last year I worked behind the scenes to bring back our annual International Neurology and Neurosurgery Conference so I am aware of all the logistics and organisation that is needed to bring such a large scale event to life. By networking with international surgeons during my current research and my Surgical Sciences iBSc next year, I’ll be able to work with the new committee to find the best speakers and workshops for INNC 2024 and JTE 2024.

My aims for this year:

  • Create a bigger in-person and online International Neurology and Neurosurgery Conference with exciting workshops and world renown speakers
  • Continue running our Journey Through The Encephalon Lecture Series with leading neurologists and neurosurgeons
  • Start a tutorial series to help guide pre-clinical and clinical students through case based learning
  • Promote both shadowing and research opportunities to students
  • Collaborate with other London university societies to bring about inter-university events and workshops
Fahm Deen

This year, my tenure on the core committee featured major successes, including hosting our landmark international conference (INNC24), curating an enlightening lecture series, initiating collaborations with peer institutions, alongside efforts to source research projects.

Running for this position, I am driven by a commitment to continuity, aiming to further our initiatives, broaden networks, enrich our society's offerings, and ultimately strengthen its legacy.

Ideas to Complement Existing Initiatives:

  • Collaborate: Host the first-ever pan-London Neurology & Neurosurgery conference. Provide neuroanatomy tutorials and establish an annual competition.
  • Integrate: Restructure JTE series in partnership with Neurology & Neuroscience society, ensuring holistic coverage of clinical neurology, surgical intervention & research.
  • Innovate: Organise a symposium featuring CV clinic and hands-on surgical workshops, complemented by a neurosurgery hackathon. Introduce prize essay competitions.

Why Me?

  • Awarded PhD from Queen Square & involvement in 15+ research projects, with a vast network from students to leading neurologists & surgeons
  • iBSc supervisor & mentor for MSc/PhD students at QS
  • Faculty (FMS) & Academic Rep (RUMS) with lead roles in National Medical Association and MedSoc (Academic Med)

Drawing upon my experience, vision, and enthusiasm, I am committed to forging a future where every student feels inspired and empowered to explore the vast horizons of neurosurgery!
