As social secretary I would like to make sure that every member of the snowsports society enjoys the socials we organise and to create a welcoming environment where people can meet and make new friends. I plan to do this by organising a variety of events which cater different types of people and their interests. As a fresher, the socials helped me integrate into the club by getting to know the other members of the society and making friends along the way. As social secretary I would like to keep this sense of community and ensure that everyone has fun at the socials next year!!

Sofia Routh

Hi! I’m Sofia, I’m an English and French law student. You have probably heard me screaming my heart out at Kings cheering on UCL or crying of laughter at my own jokes. I love skiing. When I arrived at UCL and heard that we have a ski team, I saw no other option than to join. I started the year as a racer and then got roped into freestyle by Drew, Charlie and Cosmo and thanks to their brilliant coaching, I somehow managed to podium so I feel I have a good understanding of both.

My perfect day on the slopes definitely includes the après. Trip and AJAM have made me love everything from R&B to house music. If I haven’t dragged you there already you can always find me passionately but embarrassingly dancing on the dance floor or on the odd wonky table on trip. Most importantly, I feel I try my best to create a fun easy environment. I am down for a laugh or a chat no matter what the subject is. Many people say I am a sociable, outgoing, spontaneous (but organised) person - and on a bay day, I can be a French law student to get us the best deals, venues and events.

I adore the communal family-like atmosphere in Snowsports. I would like to keep this going and make it more inclusive towards newcomers and beginner skiers. Snowsports socials should be a place you can bring your friends for a fun night out and, who knows, they might even want to join just for our events. I believe we need to liven up Wednesday nights, increase our numbers, instil traditions and send it with our themes.

Maya Gupta

I believe that I would suit the role of social sec as I consider myself to be an approachable, fun person and I have lots of good ideas! I have experience in leadership roles as I teach skiing and tennis, and I am very organised when it comes to social events. Next year I would love to see the Wednesday socials be jazzed up a bit, for example more drinking games and dressing up! I would also like to arrange nights out after the Kings' races and make sure we always have something planned. I thought the ice skating social worked really well this year, and would love to organise more trips like that, such as ninja warrior or laser tag. Most importantly, I would love to get more people involved with the social side of the club, as I feel that especially considering how many people were on the trip, there's the potential for Snowsports socials to be much bigger and more exciting!

Thank you!
