Marianne Heleine

Having become a dedicated member of UCL Salsa Society, my passion for it has truly blossomed. The fusion of dance, music, vibrant personalities, and rich cultural experiences have captivated me. Immersing myself in the society and taking an active role in its committee this year has been an amazing and challenging opportunity that I am grateful for.

Beyond the classes, which undoubtedly form a crucial aspect, lies the heartbeat of the society—its social aspect. With a desire to cultivate this, I am eager to maintain the role of Social Secretary. Salsa extends beyond the UCL dance floor, and I aim to introduce members to the rich Latin dance scene that  thrives in London.

As your Social Secretary, I wish to add vibrancy to the salsa society by organising a variety of activities and trips. From securing exclusive discounts for Latin socials across London to planning trips to salsa festivals nationwide, I am committed to ensuring this all happens. My goal is that salsa society feels like a dynamic and inclusive community, where the joy of dance is felt at all levels. Having been the social secretary this year, I have crucial first hand experience of making sure this can all be achieved.

Let's keep the salsa spirit alive, not just within the classroom but throughout the vibrant London Latin dance scene. Your vote is greatly appreciated and I am grateful for your support. Together, let's ensure the salsa society maintains its energy and enthusiasm!

Riana Ao

Hiya, I’m Riana and I would love to be Social secretary for next year's salsa society!

I started dancing bachata in October and since November/December I’ve fallen in love with social dancing. I go around twice a week and my confidence, dance technique and inventory of moves has increased tenfold just from nights out at BOS, salsa temple, salsa soho, coyote and at mambo city. London is full of so many amazing places to go social dancing and if I become Social Sec I’d love to organise and encourage the whole society to go to see how much your dancing can improve and to just have fun!

I know it can be so daunting, especially when you’re new to salsa, and I’ve recently started learning the leader position and I've found taking the jump is so much easier when you’re with friends and familiar faces from our uni. It all starts with going out dancing with friends, applying what we learn in the classes to then building up the courage to dance with new people. I’ve met so many amazing dancers and made so many friends from nights out social dancing – it's so electric being surrounded by so many likeminded people who love to dance!

I’ve got the organisational skills and the passion for social dancing – I already go more than once a week so planning something for the society at least fortnightly would be a pleasure! :)

Haziq Aiman

Hi! I'm Haziq and I'm running for Social Secretary

Over the last two years, I've been an part of our society and have thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it.

Why am I running? Well, I've been to more socials than I probably should have, and I want to share that fun with everyone. From the spontaneity of every dance to meeting people from different salsa societies, it's been amazing.

Furthermore, as performance coordinator I have experience in organizing performances with external collaborators which I believe will be beneficial in the Social Secretary role.

Trust me when I say, I'll take you to the best socials of your life 😉
