Having become a dedicated member of UCL Salsa Society, my passion for it has truly blossomed. The fusion of dance, music, vibrant personalities, and rich cultural experiences have captivated me. Immersing myself in the society and taking an active role in its committee this year has been an amazing and challenging opportunity that I am grateful for.

As I look back on my involvement, I can see the positive impact salsa has had on my life, and I am eager to extend this opportunity to others. That's why I would love to take on the role of classes coordinator. I am committed to maintaining the high standards of our current classes, ensuring they remain well-organised, accessible to all levels, and consistently engaging under the guidance of our exceptional teachers.

In addition to the existing classes, I will organise a variety of exciting workshops, providing opportunities for everyone to explore new styles and enhance their skills. My approach will create an inclusive environment where everyone feels comfortable, encouraged, and motivated to participate.

My goal is to see the salsa society continue to thrive, and I am willing to go above and beyond to make this happen. Your vote means a lot to me, and I am thankful for your consideration of me as classes coordinator. Let's keep the rhythm alive and the salsa spirit flourishing!

Ilia Albamonte-Sianni

Hello, I’m Ilia, a second year Psychology with Education student! Deciding to start salsa nearly 2 years ago was the best choice I have made and something I am truly passionate about. As a member of the committee this year, and having dedicated my time and effort to engage with salsa sessions and in the running of the society, I would love to be involved for yet another year!

As classes coordinator, I will ensure that our classes cater to dancers of all levels. Feedback on lessons will be welcomed, which will be effectively communicated to our teachers to better serve the needs of our society members. In addition to our weekly classes, I will aim to organise as many workshops possible in other Latin dance styles. I am dedicated to creating a dynamic and inclusive learning environment where members can explore their passion for salsa dancing, develop their skills, and forge lifelong friendships.

Hwee Ru Kom

In 2022, one of the best things to happen to me was to join the Salsa Society in winter- once I set foot in Christopher Ingold Auditorium, the cold, rainy and often sleet-y days of London were instantly made brighter and I never looked back. One day of salsa a week became two and then three and the next thing I know, I'm addicted, going for socials, and dragging my poor friends to do salsa with me.

What really stood out to me was the constant dedication that the class coordinators had- I knew that they would always be there taking attendance and often participating themselves. I want to bring the same energy back to this society, and ensure that anyone, be it a curious stranger trying out dance classes for the first time in their lives, or the seasoned salseras/salseros/salseres, will always be able to rock the dance floor.

I bring with me:

  • Dedication that gave me a spotless track record for Term 2 attendance (even better than half my lectures I took)
  • An affinity for excel tracking sheets
  • A commitment to improve the ticketing/attendance system so there is less friction when entering classes

Thank you for your consideration, let's keep UCL Salsa great.

Aniella Ingram

Heyy guys! I am Aniella :))

As your Classes and Scheduling Coordinator for the past several months, I am excited to be running for re-election for the 2024/5 Salsa Society Committee. Since joining only this academic year, I have found the society to be one of the most welcoming, exciting communities here at UCL, one which I would be honoured to continue to help run.

Since November, I have come to understand the inner-workings of this role; from finding, hiring, and communicating with our talented teachers to ensuring that workshops pulse with creativity and skill, being the society’s Classes Coordinator has become second-nature to me. My re-election would mean choosing a coordinator who has cultivated relationships with professionals and fellow enthusiasts within London’s Latin Dance scene. I plan to use this experience to continue working closely with our weekly class teachers as well as seeking out new instructors to host a range of workshops, expanding upon the styles on offer at UCL.

Being part of the Salsa Society Committee has been an immensely rewarding experience, and I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the fantastic community we've cultivated. With your vote, I would love to continue using my knowledge to ensure the smooth sailing of our society.
