Embracing cutting-edge research is essential in our evolution into modern healthcare professionals. Leveraging my background in research, academia, and leadership, I am enthusiastic about serving as your next chair to drive our academic community forward.

Key Initiatives:

  • Research Opportunities Bank: Partner with RUMS to fulfil a key unmet goal by launching a resource consolidating all research opportunities.
  • Mentorship Scheme: Enhance our successful mentorship program by incorporating workshops on academic writing and journal clubs. Develop a resource repository sharing insights into research journeys, making valuable experiences widely accessible.
  • Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis Course: Launch the first-of-its-kind systematic reviews and meta-analysis course, equipping students with key skills currently beyond our curriculum.
  • Interdisciplinary Lecture Series: Collaborate with science societies to introduce a lecture series highlighting the variety of research at UCL, focusing on bridging theory with research methods/practices across disciplines.

Experience:

  • Awarded PhD from UCL Queen Square during medical school with experience in 15+ research projects.
  • As part of RAM committee, delivered inaugural neuroscience talk and workshops on academic writing and abstract skills, alongside being a research mentor.
  • Faculty (FMS) and Academic Rep (RUMS), along with leadership roles in UCL Neurosurgery Society and National Medical Research Association, among others.
Anish Kalyana

Having worked as the Secretary in the previous committee, my main aims involve carrying on our current work and progress into the next academic year. This involves:

  • Developing a research opportunity database to help expose younger students to more research opportunities and essential contacts within academic research
  • Create an annual schedule of talks from clinical researchers to help individuals understand and develop crucial research skills
  • Provide a platform that allows individuals to practice presenting their research in front of an audience to help them in future conferences
  • Collaborate with other divisions of the Medical Society and Surgical Society

Experience

I have also previously been the Events Officer for Ophthalmology and Anaesthesia Societies, Outreach Officer for Oncology Society as well as the Logistical Coordinator for iNUGSC 2024.

I have personally been involved in a range of research projects from producing a comprehensive decision support system on subclinical detection and prognostication of FECD at Moorfields to investigating the use of AI and NLPs in Skin Cancer diagnosis. I will also be working in Queen Square in the upcoming academic year for my Clinical Neurology and Brain Sciences iBSc.
