Xinyi Chen

As Academic Secretary, I hope to contribute to the betterment of LSS for members through assisting in the planning of LSS’ academic-related events. I intend to engage members through both formal and informal academic initiatives. These include:

  • Organising research sharings
  • Collaborating more with other societies on hosting academic talks
  • Connecting students with seniors/alumni to receive guidance and mentorship, especially in the areas of internship/year in industry/PhD applications
  • and many more!

Despite being a fresher, I believe I have the qualities needed for the role. I have experience with management and leadership: I led multiple societies in high school, and co-founded a successful mental health initiative in Singapore that raised money for charity. Being adaptable and resilient means I can quickly overcome challenges. Communicative and sociable, I collaborate well with others, and will work with committee members in the planning and execution of events, ensuring transparency in decision-making and administration to maintain the quality and longevity of LSS.

Thank you for considering me as your next LSS Academic Secretary. I am excited to carry forward the 23-24 committees’ good work to take the society even further, and I appreciate your support!

Tai San San Amelia

Hi everyone! I am Amelia Tai, currently a first-year BSc Biomedical Sciences student. I am running for the academic secretary role for the UCL Life Sciences Society. I believe in the importance of bridging the gap between research and the application of novel solutions to solve real-world challenges through communicating scientific ideas and promoting education to the wider community. As a goal-oriented individual, I am passionate about driving positive changes within the organisation by widening the life sciences community. I have extensive experience working on projects in various team settings where I collaborated with members and external parties. For instance, as an associate for the Malaysian Bioscience Scholars (MBIOS), I actively reach out to speakers including researchers and professionals in the bioscience industry. I am also moderating events such as talks and panel discussions covering multifarious research and development topics. These experiences have built my communication and interpersonal skills which allow me to articulate to potential guest speakers the objectives of the talks and workshops organised and ensure the academic events cater to diverse interests. I am confident in my ability to provide you with the experiences you seek, especially for gaining exposure to different fields and supporting your career journey. Overall, I am committed to achieving the society’s objectives and shaping a meaningful university experience for all of you.

Madina Amiraslanova

Hi everyone, my name is Madina and I’m a first-year Cancer Biomedicine student.

I’m excited about this opportunity to provide a space for students to think deeply about and share their ideas about life sciences research! Something I have thoroughly enjoyed as a member this year. As the founder and chair of the Science Research and Discussion Society in my sixth form, I have gained invaluable insight into organizing academic events and thought-provoking discussion sessions for students! I’ve also been the first-year representative of the UCL Science Magazine, which has given me experience in organizing academic talks and workshops! I’m deeply passionate about thinking critically and creatively about important disciplines in life sciences, their intricate molecular underpinnings, and the meaningful impact they bring! I hope to provide opportunities for students who share this passion by organizing exciting academic talks, discussion sessions, and workshops with experts in the life sciences field!
