Adrija Mazumdar

I would like to become the Events Officer of the Knitting Society to contribute to its smooth running of it. I am very passionate about knitting, a hobby and skill that has been passed down by my grandmother to me. I really enjoyed the time spent at the society events, both knitting and meeting new people. I would like to ensure that this continues smoothly in the next year too. I have experience in the management of societies which I can bring to the table. In school, I developed good interpersonal skills and the ability to connect with a team by being a sub-editor and writer for the Enigma Science Magazine. Furthermore, I had to write and edit science articles within fixed deadlines so that they could be published. Therefore I have good time management and can make sure there are regular events in the knitting society.  As the vice-chair of Girls in STEM, I organised a conference event with women scientists. I have experience in organising events.

Lianne Ng

I am an enthusiast of everything craft-related. Since I was young, I’ve spent all my spare time embroidering, sewing, crocheting, you name it. This long standing enthusiasm has ultimately culminated in my interest to be Events Officer.

If elected, I aim to:

  1. Establish Instagram features for the knit & crochet projects of students. This forms an outlet for anybody to share the pieces they’re most proud of.
  2. Organise fundraisers selling knit & crochet goods to collect money for charities. This puts a simple hobby to good use & heightens our social impact.
  3. Strengthen collaboration with other societies. Establishing stronger partnerships allows us to plan more innovative events and increase our outreach.

Furthermore, I believe my past experiences make me well equipped for this role.

  1. As programme director of a school camp, I delegated responsibilities to a team of 25, strengthening my leadership & event-organising skills.
  2. As vice president of the student council, I exhibited adaptability by planning livestream assemblies & creative virtual activities to celebrate Teacher’s day despite a last-minute change in Covid-19 restrictions.
  3. As vice captain of the netball team, I led team drills & garnered experience enhancing morale. This is especially important in maintaining a vibrant community for our society.

With a passion for art, fresh ideas to bring to the table, & the skills crucial of an Events Officer, I believe I am the ideal candidate for this

As an avid (amateur) knitter, I bring not only organisational skills, but also a deep passion for the craft to the role of Events Officer. Knitting has been a cherished hobby of mine, offering me a creative outlet and sense of relaxation amidst the demands of academics.

Running for Events Officer, I look forward to organising events that cater to members of all skill levels. These initiatives aim to draw in more like-minded individuals, providing opportunities for us to bond.

One such event could be a Fashion Show showcasing knit and crochet garments crafted by our members. This would celebrate our society's creativity, while serving as inspiration for future projects.

With my background as an Events Executive Committee member for TEDxYouth and as the founder of a successful service project, I believe I am well-equipped to take on this role. My event planning and problem-solving skills have enabled me to orchestrate multiple successful campaigns to collect and donate shoes to countries in need. Through effective delegation and meticulous planning, we made a tangible impact on communities worldwide.

As a Knitting Society member for the past academic year, I loved attending the workshops and socials, where I could learn more about the craft, and make new friends. The sense of community I felt was inspiring, and the prospect of being able to foster that same sense of camaraderie within Knitting Society next year is exciting.
