I'm standing for Welfare Officer because I'm passionate about contributing to UCL kendo's success and the wellbeing of its members is a key part of that. I have been an active member for almost 2 years and I'll offer a listening ear and prioritise the welfare of all members. I'm empathetic, approachable, and committed to ensuring everyone feels supported and included, so please vote for me!

Nicole English

Until I came across the kendo stand during the Welcome Fair earlier this year, I had never once considered it to be something I wanted to try during university. However, upon talking to the representatives manning the booth, I was drawn to the idea of participating in a sporting society that stressed both a competitive, but also a community/social environment. Over the course of this year, I have found myself firmly in love with a sport that I had barely heard about pre-university, largely in part due to the people. Through kendo, I have not only developed a skill in whacking people with a big stick, but I have also made friends both in UCL and outside, and this is something I would like to encourage for future and current members should I be nominated.

Furthermore, as someone who has had both friends and family struggle with mental health and self worth issues, I have always felt that the emotional and physical wellbeing of the members to be the most important aspect of any community. I would be extremely grateful to be chosen to represent and aid all current and future participants in the UCL Kendo club and I would do my very best to ensure that I contribute to the UCL kendo kulture of kindness.

Additionally, I am prepared to commit to all the expected roles of a welfare officer, such as being an active member of the Welfare and Community zone, attending any and all meetings that are required in order to best represent the welfare needs of the society.
