I believe uni takes a huge toll on our mental health and as someone who's always grateful for having people to turn to during bad days, I plan to host check in sessions and possibly having a discord chat/vc dedicated to peer support + discussions and to create a safe space for members to rant.

Of course, as a community we are bound to have conflicts, I will act as a mediator, and manage issues or disputes by facilitating constructive dialogue and resolution among members. This is done by promoting open communication, and understanding. Members would also be able to inform me of any concerns, and with my fast reply speed, I’ll try to resolve such issues promptly to prevent escalation. I also plan to introduce mentorship programs or events to aid freshers integrate into our community, providing advice and support throughout this transition.

Collaborative decision making is essential within a club. Thus, I will also work closely with the other officers and leadership team to ensure the events held would take members' suggestions into account, be it the type of event, the activities held, or the venue, I will try ensure that most needs are met, as the welfare of the community remains at the forefront of all my endeavours.

And of course, as welfare officer, I promise to be your voice to push for a better, harmonious, and more inclusive kpop society moving forward, making it a safe and welcoming community for every fan alike and a society that we can all be proud of.

Sarah Ohonba-Evans

Hello! I am Sarah and I am a first year Economics and Business with East European Studies student. I am standing because I want to make sure everybody feels safe and included in our society. I have the qualities that are required of a welfare officer because I have good judgment and can empathise with others which will help ensure that alongside dancing, singing or whatever else we are doing we can also have peace of mind. I enjoy speaking to people and finding out more about other cultures. I have met so many people that have truly made a difference in my uni life. First off joining the Rover cover was my first dip into K-pop society where I got to be myself and meet interesting and talented people. As well as meeting people through BTBT, Blooms, movie nights while eating Wing Wing and much more. With my degree being very analytical I love how K-pop society has been a space for me to embrace my creativity and I hope that can be the case for others too. There are so many memories that I absolutely treasure from this society so that’s why I think it is time for me to step up and help out. I aim to help everyone find their space in K-pop society where they can thrive and have the most fun in.

Blessing Echefu

Hey heyy, I'm Blessing and I'm running to be your next welfare officer! Kpop soc offers such a fun and unique community to be a part of, and I'm eager to contribute to making it a welcoming, diverse and friendly environment for all.

As a big people-person, I really enjoy and value forming connections - whether old friends or new faces, it's important to me that people know that they are supported. In this way, I believe that I would be able to positively impact the society, be it through organising welfare events, or simply by making the time to listen to any worries or concerns and ensuring that everyone's voice is heard. I intend to prioritise your well-being by making sure that kpop soc remains a safe space for every member.

As a current Students’ Union societies rep, I’m already invested in ensuring that societies offer the best possible experience for students and provide a welcome break from academics. I very much know the struggles of juggling extra-curricular commitments with uni work, so I'm especially passionate about supporting society members through those stressful moments, and making sure that participating in kpop soc remains a primarily enjoyable and happy experience.

Every since joining in first year, I've had such a great time being a part of kpop soc and would love the opportunity to give back to the society as welfare officer. Please consider supporting me to support you~ Many thanks!
