Sanjana Krishnan

Hi everyone! I'm Sanjana and I'm thrilled to be running for Sanskaar Officer. Driven by a deep appreciation for our culture that’s been instilled in me since childhood, my main goal is to foster a strong sense of connection and pride in our shared cultural identity within the society. With over 14 years at Chinmaya Mission, transitioning from student to sevak, I work closely with resident Acharyas and would be honoured to bring them in to share their spiritual wisdom through talks on Sanatana Dharma.

UCL Gita Circles has helped me to introspect more, which I gain a lot of peace from, and has also emphasized the value of a Sanskaar Officer in today's world. By encouraging the questioning of traditional practices, I aim to deepen understanding as exploring their significance helps form a deeper connection to religion beyond blind adherence.

Drawing from my experiences in my local Hindu groups, I hope to introduce new events like Hanuman Jayanti and Swaranjali’s while preserving tradition. Stepping out of my comfort zone to choreograph dance medleys has improved my organization and leadership skills, which I can use when working as a team. Volunteering with the Royal Marsden and the CMUK marketing team has also underscored the essence of seva—putting others before myself—an ethos aligning with both my future profession, as a doctor, and life. I’m really excited to give back to the society and ensure the continual growth of our vibrant community, so hope I can count on your vote!

Shreya Kantamneni

Hi, I’m Shreya :)

I’m a first year medical student and I am running for the role of Sanskaar officer for UCL Hindu Society.

I wholeheartedly believe that UCL Hindu Society is truly an incredible society that provides all UCL students the wonderful opportunity to network with like-minded students and also celebrate Hindu festivals.

In terms of my personal qualities, I am an extremely friendly and caring person. I always like to make people smile and helping others is truly the positive energy that I thrive on. As sanskaar officer, I am looking forward to creating more opportunities for UCL students to celebrate and learn more about Hindu culture.

I am a Hindu myself and can fluently speak Hindu and Telugu. As sanskaar officer, I am also looking forward to learning more about the brilliant diversity within Hinduism and the different ways in which all Hindus celebrate their culture, to ensure that this is reflected in all the activities that are organised by UCL Hindu society.

Guneeka Chitkara

Hi, I’m Guneeka and this year, Hindu Society has been an amazing community where I’ve made some of my best friends. As Sanskaar officer, I’d want everyone to celebrate their faith and find a second home in Hindu Society.

Representing young British Hindus at the Parliament and helping within KCsoc as committee has provided valuable leadership experience within a UCL society, preparing me for next year. I have partaken in Varchasva, a Hindu leadership program from the University of Oxford, and have been president of my school’s Hindu society, where I organized the first massive student-led Diwali celebration. I was awarded the Outstanding Individual award in Bexley Borough for my extensive volunteer work such as organising daily prayer sessions for over two years with 40+ families, assisting in religious events with 2000+ attendees, etc. These experiences will equip me to cultivate the essential Sanskaar side of UCL Hindu Society whilst fostering an inclusive and fun religious space.

To increase awareness of our Dharmic traditions, I would love to incorporate weekly aartis and engaging discussions, alongside events such as Bhajan nights and temple visits. Expanding sewa initiatives, such as our GoDharmic initiative and emphasising religious significance in our celebrations are also key focuses for next year. By working with our social secretary for collaborations with other societies and universities, I can strengthen our faith community in a fun way as your sanskaar officer!

Tavishi Bhalotia

Growing up in a devout Hindu family immersed in religious teachings and classical Hindustani vocal music, Hinduism has been the cornerstone of my life. With a father who instilled the practice of daily meditation and weekly visits to the Shree Ganapathy Temple Wimbledon, I understand the beauty of Hinduism. My aspiration is to share this beauty with others.

I aim to portray the diverse tapestry of Hinduism, illustrating its various forms and traditions that permeate throughout Bharat and beyond. Through educational initiatives, I seek to enlighten others about the different forms of each hindu tradition, emphasising that there is not just one interpretation and how different communities celebrate Hinduism differently.

In addition to traditional talks, I envision engaging philosophical debates that invite active participation. These debates will not only educate but also entertain, making learning about Hinduism an enjoyable experience for all.

I plan to collaborate with universities to host talks that explore the intersection of Hinduism and contemporary life. For instance, inviting a CEO to discuss how Hindu teachings can be used to develop a successful business, demonstrating how spiritual wisdom can enrich one's career.

I also intend to organise monthly storytelling sessions, delving into Hindu folklore to captivate audiences and preserve our cultural heritage. Through these initiatives, I aim to create a cohesive approach to promoting Hindu values within UCL and beyond!
