I’m running for President as I believe I have refreshing ideas and what it takes to bring the society to even greater heights. My vision for GenSoc? Scaling up and scaling out. I hope to bring an even greater diversity of speakers and topics into GenSoc’s journal club meetings and speaker sharings, to cater to the diverse interests of the GenSoc community. This includes engaging more speakers with industry experience.

Member engagement, both formal and informal, is also important to me. Here are some more ideas that I have to make GenSoc even better:

  • Organise more networking socials
  • Host fortnightly pub quizzes
  • Implement a system for membership feedback and suggestions
  • Connect students with seniors/alumni to receive guidance and mentorship, especially in the areas of internship/year in industry/PhD applications
  • and many more!

Despite being a fresher, I believe I have the qualities needed for the role. I have a track record of leadership: I led multiple societies in high school, and co-founded a successful mental health initiative in Singapore that raised money for charity. Communicative and sociable, I work well with others. Being adaptable and resilient means I can quickly overcome challenges. If elected, I will definitely carry out my responsibilities to the best of my abilities.

Thank you for considering me as your next GenSoc President. I am excited to carry forward the 23-24 committees’ good work to take the society even further, and I appreciate your support!

Berra Aydin

Hello everyone, I'm Berra, an upcoming MSci Biosciences: Cell Biology 3rd year student. Since my first year, I've been involved in the Genetics Society, and actively serving as the treasurer on this year's committee. Through this role, I've gained invaluable experience in the society's operations, including organising social events, talks, and journal club sessions.

Drawing on this experience, I am excited to run for the president this year. My aim is to leverage my knowledge and skills to further enhance the growth and development of our society. I am committed to maintaining the frequency of social events and academic talks we've enjoyed this year while seeking out new opportunities to expand our offerings.

I want to build a welcoming and inclusive environment where all members feel valued and engaged. Through collaboration with fellow committee members, I am confident we can continue to improve Genetics Society.

Thank you for considering me for this role. I look forward to continuing my contributions to our society :)
