I am standing for Society Treasurer because I believe in the importance of MSF having exposure at the university level, encouraging student engagement with and discussions of human rights and humanitarian issues. My personal interest in human rights and humanitarianism is perhaps best illustrated by my active engagement with human rights based charities such as The Refugee Council and the The Helen Bamber Foundation, as well as additional other related volunteering roles in areas such as education and mental health support work. Further, as a Global Humanitarian Studies undergraduate, I have had the opportunity to learn about rights-based approaches within the humanitarian sector, and have found this fascinating, further solidifying my interest in these areas. As Society Treasurer, I would strive to engage with the UCL community, facilitating the organisation of society events through financial management, committing my time towards this end.

Hi everyone, I’m Lizzie and it would be a privilege for me to be your FoMSF Treasurer next year!

As Welfare Officer this year, I’ve worked with committee and seen the importance of funding to run our events such as games night, author event, run and pub quiz- all incomplete without our fantastic snack selections!

The experiences and skills that will help me succeed in my role are:

  • Logistics officer of UCL MedSoc conference 2023: practical aspects of events and lots of spreadsheet practice!
  • Organising author event with Benjamin Black (MSF doctor and author)
  • Coordinator of the National Medical Leadership Programme: organising events both in person and zoom, planning out schedules and prioritising funds
  • Member of multiple choirs: teamwork, punctuality and time-management

What I will bring to the role:

  • More events focussed on fundraising inc. book swap, bake sales, karaoke night, Humanitarian week
  • Passion for budgeting
  • Prompt with messages and refunds from Students Union
  • More transparency with how funds are used, yearly budgets etc. to ensure our society’s sustainability
  • Get sponsorship from companies

Having been a part of committee this year, I would love to continue the amazing work our society has started this year and ensure that we can utilise our funds efficiently to support the incredible work of MSF. I promise lots of snacks and bigger, more exciting events to accompany!

Thank you so much for reading this far and I hope you give me your vote
